An arabier is a pure malt beer 8°vol/alc brewed with flower Nugget-hops from Poperinge. It has the special dry-hopping taste and aroma, so appreciated by beer lovers all over the world. It is one of the two main beers from De Dolle Brouwers throughout the year. Aging time is limited due to the fact that hop bitterness is declining with the time. Store arabier cool and dark and serve cool at 10°C. Cheers!

330ml bottle from Les Crepes de Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours a hazy yellow with a great head. Awesome blond flavours on the slightly more sweeter side with more of a yeast presence alongside vibrant citrus and lemon. Great stuff.

As a big fan of De Dolle beers I really looked forward to taste this one. 33 cl. bottle poured in to a Tulip. Hazy, golden-amber colour with a huge, fluffy head that slowly fades to big lumps. Colour gets darker as the bottle empties due to the sediment in the bottom. Fruity aroma with citrus, floral and herbal hops, sweet fruits, particularly apricot, rich caramel malts, yeasty-fruity notes. Some bread. Usual complex De Dolle aroma - excellent. Taste is herbal bitter and yeasty - a Belgian IPA. Medium body with a lively carbonation that cuts the richness somewhat. Long lasting herbal bitter and fruity finish with yeasts and caramel malts. Another excellent beer from De Dolle. Lacks a bit of the mind blowing complexity from the Reserva beers or Stille Nacht. Still very good, trough.

Clear golden/light amber with massive white head. Light sweet malts, spices (cloves), lemon, yoghurt, flowery, cucumber, green leaves. Taste is a great balance between sweetness, with fruity sourness and medium bitter finish. Medium bodied, full carbonation and medium dry feel. Nice.

Bottle bought some place I can’t remember. Pours deep golden with a huge frothy and fizzy offwhite head that leaves some soapy lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, yeasty, fruity and phenolic with biscuits, baked pears, lemon zest, hay, red apples, tar, wood, spongecake, dates and figs. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, malty, herbal and tiny earthy with biscuits, sweet dark bread, moist soil, hay, wood, unripe pears, apple skins and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is round, soft, tiny astringent and medium bodied. finish is tiny sweet, bitter and phenolic with biscuits, unripe pears, sheet metal, hay, pepper corns and lemon zest. Solid, not fancy.

Before my trip to Belgium this time I checked to see which fairly common beers I had not rated or reviewed. This is why I went into Cambrinus (Brugge) and ordered this, a Satan Red, a St Feuillien Triple and a Hercule Stout before anything else. Needless to say four different styles and types of beer: what fun drinking in Belgium can be. Anyway this was first: golden pour with a huge white head to wade through. The nose and taste are like a mixed fruit bowl that has been plunged into a bath of yeast, then had pepper dusted onto it before someone squirts lemon juice all over it. Now boil it and take out the lumpy bits, add some hops re-boil, allow it to settle in a bottle for a while and then it’s ready to drink. More please!

Draught @ Tørst, NYC. Pours clear golden with small but stable white head, leaving heavy laces on the inside of the glass. Clear aroma of fruit, hops and flowers with a touch of alcohol. Spicy and flowery flavour with regular hoppy notes and a touch of citrus and malt. A hint of biscuits in the aftertaste. Really good. And I am so happy to be the one to give rating number 1000 of this beer!
