Tap at the brewery, nitro version. Great beige foam and dark brown body, smells seriously of the best root beer (and reminds me that there's an A&W down the street from the brewery...). The flavour is a perfect melding of sweet stout and sugary root beer; I didn't think it could be done but here it is. Soft coffee and barley notes along with a nice smooth nitro mouthfeel. The mix may be a bit bizarre to traditionalists but this gets it right. Kudos to Taylight for something so sublime.

On tap at Taylight, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma smells just like a Barq's root beer, not much else to describe. Flavour is likewise not far off from a root beer, with a bit of cocoa. About the epitome of a root beer beer. No surprise that the European doesn't like it. I think this is as good as this style could get.

Draft - Striaght up rootbeer and some roast. Jet black brown with a nice brown head. Bitter chocolate and rootbeer with a nice chocolate and light bitter finish. Not sure how I feel about the flavour combination, but it is well executed.

Dark brown, thin head. Lots of wintergreen on the nose, liquorice. On the palate, soft chocolate notes, wintergreen, little bit of hop bitterness, good balance and complexity. Maybe a bit husky in the finish, right where you want a blast of soft, sugary sweetness. But otherwise not a bad go.

Draught at the brewery
Black colour, creamy brown head. Smells like joke (medicine, cookies, mint, herbs). The lactose limits somehow the damage, but the root beer syrup is nasty. I can't take more sips.
Disgusting.
