The Monk’s Stout Dupont is part of the Brewery Dupont’s history. Indeed, it was produced in the 50’s. The aim is to revive this stout while maintaining the name and the design of the time.
Created in 2011, this dark beer is characterized by a dry and bitter taste. The use of roasted malts lends a well-pronounced taste of coffee and chocolate. The hop flavours remain perceptible though.

33 cl bottle thanks to Ingo! Sampled on March 16, 2015. BB 11/2016 and also marked L14313A.Clear dark red color, fluffy teal head that leaves lacing on the glass. Malty, grainy, ligth smoked, alcohol scent. Minerals, malty, bitter, dry, alcohol taste. Dry, sand, smoked aftertaste. Medium to thin mouthfeel, very dry sand like finish.

Flaska från SB. Smak och doft av kaffe, choklad, rostad malt med toner av lakrits, rök och aska. Fruktig, rund och len, syrlig, lagom sötma, fin beska. Stabil!

330ml Bottle - Black with a foamy head. Roasted and smoked malts, cocoa and a hint of coffee in the aroma. Roasted and faintly sweet taste with notes of coffee, liquorice, coconut and some milky notes. Enjoyable and it’s always good to see Belgian beers at a more sessionable strength.

330ml bottle from Cornelius. Pours black with a massive beige head. Aromas of liquorice, dark sugar, earthy coffee. Taste is more of the same, light spicy linger. Dry finish.

Bottle from Cornelius. Dark brown body with a medium beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma of creamy chocolate, charred wood, stewed apple and coffee grounds. Flavour of tangy apple, roasted malt, soft spices and earth. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Very fizzy. An unusual Stout - light and tangy.

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, October 2014. Black with a small tan head. A bit sweet with roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some dark fruit. The finish was on the bitter side and medium dry. A relaxed and easy to drink one.

Rerun of a sweet stout dating back to a time when the style was still very popular in Belgium - now it is as good as forgotten here. Thin, beige, creamy head, near black colour with bronze hue. Aroma of coffee, sherry, red berries, bitter chocolate, hay, toasted bread; candied fruits in the taste, yeasty, chocolate maltiness, toasted with a mild roasted bitterness in the end. Not nearly as sweet as this genre of stouts usually were / are, but very interesting - it’s a Dupont beer after all, so I hadn’t expected anything less.
