IPAs have become such a wide-ranging style and new hop varieties have such diverse flavors and aromas that it’s hard to make just one variation. This is our second IPA. Zest is full of citrus and/or tropical fruit aroma and flavor. This beer was made for my wife (who is the other founder of Optimism) who loves IPAs with those big citrus and tropical fruit flavors.

At the source: pours orange with a white head. Aroma is crackers and citrus. Taste is citrusy and somewhat bitter. Is what it is IPA. Not bad.

Bright amber, medium head. On the nose, touch of diacetyl, little bit crackery malt. Light citrusy hop accent, on the maltier side of balance, again just a touch of diacetyl - I think overall I expected the citrus to be more prominent.

On tap at Optimism, pours a clear copper golden with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out herbal hops, biscuity notes and maybe a touch of diacetyl. Flavour is fruitier, with herbal hops, light stone fruitiness and biscuity malt. Fruity, bright finish. Not particularly exciting, but it works okay.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear orange gold with small white head that lasts. The aroma is orange peel and straw. Medium body, orange candy, wheat, light bitterness, good.
