Named after the district of Birmingham that hosts the world-famous Jewellery Quarter and the location of the brewery, this delicious light golden ale is produced with a unique combination of malts and English bittering and aroma hops. The result is an ale that produces an immediate but controlled orange/lemon citrus flavour yielding to further but much longer fruit notes. This ale is a good quaffing ale but is also a good accompaniment to lighter meat and cheese dishes.

500ml bottle direct from brewery. Pours clear brown, thin head on pour but strangely improves over time with a consistent carbonation. Aroma is caramel malts, raisons, a little grassy. Taste has the same notes, a little nutty, semi-sweet, with a hint of citrus and a nice moderate bitterness. Good body and unlike the last beer, the carbonation is spot on. I like this one, the bottle conditioning is much better.

Third, cask ale shared with Finn at the brewpub. Patchy surface, spotty lacing, cloudy amber body. Moderate aromas of dried fruits. Malt-fruity flavours, hints of caramel and ripe citrus. Mid-dry end with subdued bitterness. Accepted. (Birmingham 03.02.2020).

My goodness…..
Clear golden color with a fine white head. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Medium light body and a soft carbonation. Malty and grassy flavor. Tad sweet and a mild bitterness. Oh no…

8th Feb 2014: hand-pulled pint in the brewery after a tour around: one of three beers available in cask form on the day. Clear golden body with a white fluffy head. Floral and fruity nose, subtle more than full on. The taste is also a delicate flavouring of light malts and semi-bittering hops. I’d have liked more depth and robustness, but this is not that sort of brew and I suppose I should embrace the understatedness of the beer. Medium bodied, but just a tad too sophisticated for my palate.
