American Amber Ale is the second-ever beer created by Rogue’s brewmaster John Maier back in 1988. This tawny amber brew with a toffee aroma, delicate roasted malt notes and smooth finish displays what beer judges call the “perfect embodiment of an American Amber Ale."

Very beautiful, ruby-like colour. Aroma has sweet toffee, some nuts and sweetish malt. Flavour has sweet toffee and some spices. Good amber!

Aroma is nice rith resin and fruity hops. Also some caramel and hints of vanilla. Flavour has resiny malt, fruits, caramel, toffee and hints of nuts.

Bottle said 5.3% ABV. Hazy brown color. Smell grass and some vanilla. Taste is decent, but not great. Low body, low carbo.

I once wrote a very long review about American Amber Ale. Then the Alstroms deleted it (along with every other trace of my BA account) because I spoke my mind about Anheuser Busch on their website. Does that count as irony? (12/25/08)

This was the \"taster of the day\" at the House of Rogue in Newport, OR. Aroma is malty with a slight hop backing, not really getting that coffee aroma that is touted in the marketing description. Appearance is amber with a creamy head. Taste definitely has hops, slight malt backing, pretty good stuff, very smooth and easy to drink.

Purchased at Trader Joe’s in Nashville. Pours a rich amber colour with a big beige frothy head that stays a while and leaves decent lacing. Beautiful piney hop aroma. Lots of hop in the taste too. Notes of caramel malt and grain in the aftertaste. Quite refreshing with a better-than-average bitterness, but not over-the-top. Overall, a great American Pale ale with an amber ale twist.

22 oz. bottle, pours dark amber. Aroma and flavour of very dry caramel malts with not much hop balance. Fairly standard and refreshing dry amber.

12 oz bottle into English pint. Nice piney hoppy aroma; just a hint of the caramel malt smell I’m used to with ambers. Pours copper amber with a nice rocky head (looks like turbulence) and totally bitchin lacework (if the internet was around for everyday mullet-men in the ’80s, this is how beer reviews would sound like). Tastes like a pale ale! What a diversion from your standard amber ale. One part of me (the hop lover) says, way radical! The other part of me says, why not just label this as an American pale, since it has more in common with that style than with amber ales. Taste is almost completely bitter with very little sweetness. This is an anti-amber ale. Carbonation is medium. It’s slightly oily. I think rogue has done a totally tubular job at creating this bodacious American pale ale--err, amber ale I mean.
