American Amber Ale is the second-ever beer created by Rogue’s brewmaster John Maier back in 1988. This tawny amber brew with a toffee aroma, delicate roasted malt notes and smooth finish displays what beer judges call the “perfect embodiment of an American Amber Ale."

Ingredients: water, barley malt (Great Western 2-Row Malt, C40, C150), Cascade hops, Pacman yeast.

Bottle, 12C, labelled - ahem _etched_ - Red Fox Amber Ale. Amber with an inch of pale beige head. Smells very earthy with some burnt caramel and resin. Tastes sweet and a bit chewy with herbal bitterness. Doesn’t taste quite as good as it smells and there’s a little wateriness to it. Errs a little on the side of packing in the flavours rather than achieving balance. But nice all the same.

22nd July 2008. Brown ale. Plenty of tea like malt with a creamy feel. Seamlessly blends in to some medium hops which are not overly bitter. Tastes a little English Ale to me!

Bottle from bellingers, Jet Garage, Grove, Nr Wantage, Oxon, consumed 23-09-09 Pours dark amber with off-white head. Aroma is malty, touch of toffee. Taste is gloriously toffee, but with a lovely underblanket of citrus, nicely bitter, hits the spot, bloody good stuff and amongst the 3 for £4 selection I should have got some more. ࿡cl bottle) Cloudy, dark amber colour with a thick beige foamy head. Sweet and toasty malty aroma with notes of chocolate, fruits (berries, lime), mocha and a good dash of aromatic hops. Bitter flavour with delicately sweet side effects, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Robust toast-malty base, dry mouthfeel, also light fruity accents with subtle notes of coffee and piney hops; soft toast-malty and aromatic hoppy finish with a good length. Good ྐྵ.VIII.09).

Bottle: Hazy, amber coloured, big lacey fluffy and stable off-white head; solid sweet toasty nose with aromatic hops underneath; solid dry bitter (-sweet) flavour, medium bodied; a robust mix of toasted malt and dry bittering hops in the lingering finish. Fine aromatic and moreish stuff........

355 ml bottle. Clear amber with a big off-white head. Aroma is strong hoppy fruity with some caramel. First impression flavor is nice and refreshing, light caramel malty with fresh hops and citrus. Not as bitter as might expected from aroma, but a nice pronounced bitterness anyway. After a few more sips this beer feels more like any ordinary ale with lots of hop aroma and a bit thin body actually. Quite nice but not outstanding.

12 fl. oz. bottle, as Rogue American Amber Ale, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. The beer starts pouring out of the bottle by its own will. Dark amber colour, moderate beige head. Malty and bready aroma, notes of bakery and caramel, also some fruity hops, hints of spices. The flavour is malty and earthy with caramel and toffee, decent hops in the finish.

Cloudy red-brown beer with small beige head. Aroma is fruitfull, sweet and even some syrup are found. Flavour is quite sweet, malty, lightly dusty and too simple without aromas refreshing fruits, sadly. Nicely quite slippery to drink. This beer is not meet my expectations, because of too simple taste. But still good beer, but this style is not my favourite.

Bottle. Pours dark amber. Smells of butter. Not realy complex, but there is a contrast between the aroma, taste and finish. It tastes a bit like a barley wine light.
