Mikkel and Brian are two of the world’s most unconventional brewers. By designing beers at various breweries around the globe, they have found the freedom to experiment and innovate, resulting in unique beers that often blur the lines of definition. After having met at a festival in Bodegraven, NL the two realized that their first creations both were called Stateside. It was then an obvious decision to make the two recipes into a new product, packed full of piney, resinous hops, and backed by the esters of a farmhouse yeast strain.

Hazy amber orange colour, white head. Fruity aroma, citrusy hops, malts, candy, lemon, yeast and spices. Slight hay and farmhouse character. Flavour light sweet, some candy, pronounced bitterness. Very pronounced lemony hops. Medium to full body. Bitter hop finish with a light tartness and pronounced peppery spiciness. Nice one!

75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBWG 2012 – thx to tderoeck– hazy orange with a white head, nose is lots of bitter citrus hops mixed with farmhouse & hay, taste is bitter full-on citrus hops, lemon zest with a streak of spicy saison yeast & white pepper running underneath it, I am digging this combination, it really sways both sides, the citrus hops are very bitter, full on lemon peel, saison is plenty of white pepper & lots of yeast, lovely

66cl bottle @ RBBWG 2012, Antwerpen courtesy of Tderoeck.

Draft at Sugar Maple. Murky, faded orange-tan. Steady off-white head. Funky sweet Saison yeast aroma, with some nice mango hop undertones. Kind of a mess, fruity Saison tones with big IPA tastes to boot. Good ingredients, quality feel, but an odd taste. An interesting and enjoyable beer, but not at the price-point that both of these brewers command. Touches of alcohol laced pear, lemon-lime, chardonnay.

Bottle, 11C. Better as it warmed. Crept out of the bottle. Copper with a huge white head. Aroma of leaves, pine, flowers, spices. Highly carbonated mouthfeel - too much. Very dry with little malt presence - some under-ripe apricots perhaps - , more hop aromatics than bitterness, rustic spice and lemon. Very good finish to not a whole lot. Overtones without tones. Style: SaisonMoar.

Hazy orange with ample carbonation. A slow pour into a snifter, still produced large, frothy, fluffy, head. Sheets of lace. Nose is citrus and orange rind. Taste is a myriad of flavors. It seems to change though out the sip. A nice tartness as it warms. Citrus, yeast and an undefined fruit as it warms. The carbonation dances across your tongue and leaves a nice tingle. Lively mouthfeel. Spices are more apparent as it warms. A real nice layer of complexity. Get a bottle of this!

Meaty fruit nose, peaches and orange, spicy. Orange and cloudy, with a thick low head. Thick, sweet, and spicy, tangy and tart, with high carbonation. Good hops. Not really a saison, more like a tripel, yet very nice. Big peaches. Nice dry finish. Interesting.

On tap at Ølfestival 2011. It pours an almost clear body, golden in color and with a small, dense, off-white head leaving lacings. A bit weak on the nose, lighlty spiced and with a Belgian style sweetness and fruityness. Some bitterness in the flavor, would like some more, and in addition there’s the same spicyness, fruityness and sweetness sensed on the nose. Medium body, nicely carbonated. A quite pleasant saison. 110526

Not a bad beer by any means, but one that makes me believe "super-hoppy" and "saison" don’t work together. The subtleties of the Saison are apparent, but only for a minuscule blip before the pinecone hops smother everything with bitter abandon. Our Side ends up tasting a lot like a pretty good pale ale rather than the nuanced Saison I was hoping for.
