Mikkel and Brian are two of the world’s most unconventional brewers. By designing beers at various breweries around the globe, they have found the freedom to experiment and innovate, resulting in unique beers that often blur the lines of definition. After having met at a festival in Bodegraven, NL the two realized that their first creations both were called Stateside. It was then an obvious decision to make the two recipes into a new product, packed full of piney, resinous hops, and backed by the esters of a farmhouse yeast strain.

Location: 750 ml bottle from State Line, 5/15/12

Aroma: The nose has lots of spice and Belgian yeast, lemon and citrus hops
Appearance: It pours a cloudy orange color with a big, thick foam of white head
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet, and mid-plus on the spice hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full, it is slightly sticky, with a long, dry finish
Overall Impression: My rating stays just about the same from the draft version, I just went down very slightly to: 7/4/7/4/15

Location: Draft at RnH, 8/26/11

Aroma: The aroma is fairly hoppy, with some citrus, spice, and yeast
Appearance: It pours a copper-orange color with a white head and light lace
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, it is light sweet and medium bitter
Palate: This brew has a medium body, a quality mouthfeel, and a dry finish to it
Overall Impression: I thought that is one was a good solid saison. It isn't an absolutely amazing example, just a good one, and there ain't nothing wrong with that. 7/4/8/4/15

Bomber. Pours a bright, hazy orange with a large off-white head. The aroma is intense grapefruit, pine, bananas, and cider. The flavor is tart and sweet up front, with significant bitterness coming forward in the finish. The palate is heavy, grainy, and a little astringent. The finish is long and bitter. Overall, this is a uniquely hoppy saison. Very complex and flavorful, but lacks the finesse and balance of a great beer.

On draught at Bodega. The beer is a hazy yellow-peach color with a medium off-white head that recedes rapidly. Strings of lacing on the glass. Floral hops, yeast and malt in the nose. Medium body with a slightly funky character and flavors of tart fruit, peppery yeast, astringent hops and malt. The finish is fruity with a tart aftertaste. Above average overall.

Pours hazy medium orange with a fizzy/creamy off-white head. Aroma of fresh stone fruits and pine? Very fizzy carb. There’s a lot of flavor - light stone fruit - particularly nectarine? with a lot of bitter - which seems mostly resin. It also seems a bit funky. Especially when the bitter relaxes. Which takes awhile. The funk enhances with repetition. And some floral aspects arrive. Seems complex to me. Absolutely delicious. Saison of the week! At least.

750 mL bottle shared by maniac at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 3/19/11. Pours a hazy peach color with a large creamy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Huge fruity aroma with notes of peach, apricot, citrus, pear, tart cherries, vanilla, candi sugar and spices. The taste is pale malts, bready notes, dry citrus notes, pear, berries and spicy hops. Medium-full bodied. Damn good beer.
