Mikkel and Brian are two of the world’s most unconventional brewers. By designing beers at various breweries around the globe, they have found the freedom to experiment and innovate, resulting in unique beers that often blur the lines of definition. After having met at a festival in Bodegraven, NL the two realized that their first creations both were called Stateside. It was then an obvious decision to make the two recipes into a new product, packed full of piney, resinous hops, and backed by the esters of a farmhouse yeast strain.

Sample at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Golden colour. Nice aroma of tropical fruits and saison yeast. Tropical fruits in the flavour too, also notes of coriander. Good beer.

Sampled on draft at The House of 1000 Beers this beer poured a caramel-amber color with a medium sized creamy yellow-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dry and bitter with notes of citrus, must, bread and a hint of pineapple. The flavor was musty, dusty and dry with notes of orange, hay, pepper and oregano. The finish was medium length dry must, citrus and spice. Medium body. Uninspired.

Bottled:
Pours a muddy orange colour with a large, airy head. Aroma is loads of citrus; oranges, lemons, grapefruit and some coriander. Flavour is lots of grapefruit, hops and wood. Big and long, refreshing bitterness. Really good!

Bottle from a trade with michael-pollack. Pours hazy dark golden color with big white head. Aromas of brett, light doughiness, and tropical fruits. Flavors of pineapple, peach, brett, and some dough. Light to medium body with effervescent carbonation. Thanks Pollack.

14/07/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Bellissimo color ambrato chiaro, quasi dorato, limpidissimo, con schiuma bianca morbida, appena persistente. Aroma floreale, erbaceo, con luppolo e lieviti in evidenza e qualche inquietante off flavour.

Bottle. Pours clear orangish gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has grassy and flora hops that are well balanced by sweet grains. Flavor starts with grass and has a bit of grapefruit and is backe by light grains.

Tydligt inslag av gröna graanny smith äpplen i doften. Mycket kolsyra, friskt syra, lite oljig, lätt fruktig mustig och estrig sötma. Inte mycket humle men en liten jästkaraktär.

Whole Foods, P st, DC 750ml ($12): I have a weak spot for Stillwater’s funk, but fortunately, it pays off with every bottle I buy. This jawn pours a light brown color with a nice white head. The aroma is loads of funk, a hint of sugary malt, and very little hops. However, when the tasting come round the hops make themselves known and bite a bit. In any case, the yeast is still the main man and puts on a great show. Everything is blended superbly, creating a superlative beer with character and uniqueness. This jawn be dank.

Amber, lightly off-white head. Aroma of hops, flowers, citrus, caramalts: very well balanced. Moderatel bitter flavour: quite hoppy. Ok balance and some complexity.
