Ridgeway FES matures in a similar way to vintage port. Roasted malts and leaf hops initially provide an aroma of breakfast coffee and fresh spices that gradually fades to reveal liquorice, caramel and raisin notes that are products of the aging process. Beneath all this change, sits a solid and resilient backbone of bitter English hops.

(Cask at St. Urho’s Pub Portteripäivät’13) The beer poured deep dark brown. Its head was small and white. Aroma had sweetness, roasted malts, berries and alcohol. Palate was full bodied, oily and dry with low carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, roasted malts, burnt malts and bitterness. Afteraste was roasty and bitter. A bit weird and too sweet.

(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Bready and mildly roasted malty aroma with notes of dried fruits, caramel, chocolate and vanilla. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Mildly roasted malty base with present fruity notes of dark berries, raisins, accompanied by hints of chocolate and molasses; sweet and rather delicately bitter finish, again with fruity, almost a slightly vinous notes with an alcoholic strength well-hidden. Unusual Stout, a tad sweet and only mildly roasted but still likeable. 04.II.13

Bottle from Beers Of Europe, King’s Lynn
Black color, small head. Very mild aroma of roasted malts. The body structure is lighter than expected, but not too thin, indeed increasing the drinkability; quite good flavor of dark caramel, with just a touch of roasted malts and of oak. It has some fresh note too.
Well brewed, balanced and pleasant to drink.

Black with a crema head that fades to a coat. Aroma of mocha, tar, licorice, grass, prunes. A little boozy. Silky mouthfeel, low carbonation. Taste has dark fruits, treacle licorice, mocha, a touch of sourness. Firm bitterness in a brief dry finish. Satisfying and balanced with a lovely texture.

Bottled 500ml. -from Presporska Pivoteka ie Cafe Luxor, Bratislava. Black coloured, medium sized beige head, chocolate nutty nose. Roasted malt, chocolate and alcohol with notes of vanilla. Also chocolate in the finish. Nice brew.

Bottle from beers of Europe. Dark brown clear pour with small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and some coffee. Same in flavour with a caramel sweetness and some raisin.

22.1.2012. Bottle. Pours with a quickly disappearing brown airy head. Very dark brown colour, almost black. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, roasted, coffee, raisin. The taste is well balanced bitter-sweet. The sweetness is more background in the finish. 7,2.
28.12.2025. Revisiting one of my first rating ever. Actually this was my 35th rating back in the day. Here goes now. Classic, good. Med body, med-light carbo. Med bitter, med-light sweet. Light astringency. Medium deep roast, coffeeish, a bit burnt. Med-light caramel too. Crushable. 7,8.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours deep ruby, with a thin off-white head. The nose is dark fruit, cocoa powder, jammy fruit and coffee. The taste is jammy fruit, chocolate, caramel, currant, raisin, port, wood, roasted malt and coffee, with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation and decent balance. Decent.
