Ridgeway FES matures in a similar way to vintage port. Roasted malts and leaf hops initially provide an aroma of breakfast coffee and fresh spices that gradually fades to reveal liquorice, caramel and raisin notes that are products of the aging process. Beneath all this change, sits a solid and resilient backbone of bitter English hops.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with frothy, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with nuts, chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Malty, fruity taste with notes of dark bread, dark fruit, prunes, raisins and a balanced cocoa bitterness in the finish. Medium body, rather sweet. Nice beer with alcohol well hidden. In short: chocolatey, fruity foreign stout in boxing gloves.

Bottle. Pitch black beer with a strong head. The aroma is milky, roasted and bitter. The flavour is rich, aniseed, roasted, and quite bitter. Overall a reasonable but strong tasting stout.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt with a nice hoppyness. Flavor is very sweet with some vanilla and coffee. Finish is again very sweet and a small amount of bitterness. Almost a sweet stout and just heavy enough to make this an ok stout.

Black with tiny beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt and caramel. Flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and coffee notes. Ends sweet.

Bottle 50cl.Clear medium brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (190608)

Bottle from John’s Marketplace in Portland, OR. Brown/black color with a minimal tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malt. Medium body with slight but biting, carbonation. Rather dark roast/toast flavor, but not all that bitter. There’s some coffee in it. Seems to be a touch of pepper in the finish. Very drinkable, but not so good as to justify a long trip to obtain it.

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of KimJohansen. Pours a clear reddish brown with a dense light brown head. Sweet fruity nose with some vanilla. Medium body with sweetish hard roasted malts, lots of fruit and vanilla and a very smooth mouthfeel. Almost no bitterness. Lovely and very pleasant. 190608

Bottle, from trade with Maria. Except for a little bit small head, it looks really nice in the glass. Dark brown, next to black body, and a beige to tan head topping it off. The beer has a quite sweetish aroma with roasted malt and coffee balancing the sweetness. There’s fruityness in the flavor, along with the roasted malt and chocolate, and there’s also some alcohol and coffee, but most of all it’s sweet. Warming, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a lasting finish with the same flavors found initially. A really nice one, maybe a bit sweet, but I liked it that way. (080509)

500ml bottle from Utobeer. Very very dark brown colour with thin beige head. Roasted malt, coffee aroma. Full and enjoyable in mouth. Impy stout malty aroma, some alcohol is present. Some raisin fruit. There is bitterness on end from hop and roasted malt. Very good fruit through out. Actually not at all bad. A very English version of an Impy stout.
