CDA poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a mahogany colored body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up roasted malts, slightly nutty coffee and chocolate malts. The taste delivers a wide load of robust roastiness with dark roasted malts, coffee and then some chocolate malts. To midway it becomes a tad earthy with a nod to wet tobacco. There's a moderate level of bitter hoppiness but there doesn't seem to be much hop flavor; just vague hop bitterness. Decent offering.

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown with a small head. Fresh with toasted malt, hops, grapefruit and some licorice. The body was medium as was the bitterness.

On tap at Half Door, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lightly toasted malt, earthy hops and light faded coffee. Flavour is well-balanced between earthy hops and medium roasted malt. Earthy and a bit muffled. Very good.

Draft - Dark roast, pine and caramel. Jet brown with a small white head. Sweet something? Can’t put my finger on it. And some cooked orange and pine.
