Lots of English Brown malt separates this beer from the richer, sweeter examples. Use of a London yeast strain produces a dry finish with complex fruit flavours to accompany the coffee and nutty notes from Brown malt.

Magic Lake English Porter, a reimagined seasonal fave. British Brown, Crystal and Chocolate malts provide rich, bready notes with a hint of coffee, cocoa and nutty aromas.

Aroma is soft coffee and nothing else. Has a murky brown body with a bit of white foam. Flavour is okay sweet barley and brown sugar, no complexity. Mouthfeel is full enough but not crisp. This is a middling porter but drinkable.

On tap at A-Frame, pours a slightly red tinged brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt with a touch of red fruit. Flavour is balanced between toasted malt, a touch of smoked/burnt malt and a touch of red fruit. Crisp, dry palate. Decent but nothing special.

On tap (nitro) at the brewery. Clear dark mahogany with a tight lingering off white head leaving sparse lace. Nose is coffee and cocoa with a touch of vanilla. Light sweet molasses with a medium- coffee bitterness. Mouth is slightly thin with soft carbonation. Decent porter. 7/3/7/3/13

Medium brown, light cocoa...pretty basic porter nose. A bit sweet on the palate. Nice fudgey character and maybe a toasty dryness in the finish. Decent porter, wouldn’t mind a touch more bitterness.
