Abita Jockamo IPA® is an American IPA brewed with pale, red, and caramel malts. This copper-colored ale is liberally hopped and dry hopped with Willamette and Columbus hops. The flavor is bold like the “Mardi Gras Indians” who march through New Orleans in suits of feathers and beads.

Jockamo has a flavor that entices and excites the palate. The intense hop character adds more spice to the meal and makes it a perfect choice to team up with many spicy dishes. Cheddar and strong farmer cheeses stand up well to Jockamo’s hoppy character. Jockamo goes well with wild game, grilled meats and Thai or Mexican cuisine.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 9 Aug 2011) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, apricots, crystal malt and slightly earthy hops. Malty, fruity taste with notes of orange peel, dried apricots, toast and earthy hops. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Nice and tasty.

On tap at Akkurat in August 2011. My first beer from Abita. Clear light amber with a small head. Quite hoppy aroma with flowers and grape. The taste was not extremely hoppy, good but nothing spectacular.

You get what you pay for with Jockamo IPA. It’s not the best IPA, no, but it’s cheap, and can fulfill a minor hop jones. The finish is too mild and bubbly, and I feel like I should hate this beer, yet there’s some minor charm to which Jockamo inexplicably clings, leaving me happy. I can see this brew being a great training IPA for the craft-phobic. (12/2/08)

Clear and deep amber in color. Aroma has a nice sweet malt profile, mildly earthy, some citrus hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Flavor is similar to the aroma with fairly light bitterness for an IPA. A decent IPA, easy drinking, but kinda boring. Still, would drink again.

An amber beer with an orangey head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, grapefruits, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, grapefruit, and hops as well as a touch of nuts, leaidng to a bitter finish.

More malt than hops. Brown color. Light sweet, but seriously lacking in hops for an ipa.

A golden amber IPA with a thin lacing off white head. A smooth caramel with light hops and strawberry notes. In mouth, a nice malt base with caramel, very subdued hops, but not an IPA. On tap at J.Ryan’s, August 2010.
