BigLeaf Maple Autumn Red is a quaffable, well-balanced American red ale with character. Its malty complexity and coppery color come from a combination of two caramel malts, pale malt, and a hint of maple syrup. To complement these flavors, we used three additions of Nelson Sauvin hops in the brewkettle and a unique blend of Nelson Sauvin, Citra, and Cascade for dry hopping. A hint of maple — including bigleaf maple — syrup in every brew perfectly complements the malty complexity, balanced hoppiness, and rich fall hue of BigLeaf Maple Autumn Red.

355ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Vika. Pours a solid and lasting rocky, off-white head, laces well. Next to clear copper coloured body. Mixed aromas of pumpkin, caramel and dried fruits. Taste of apricot, pumpkin and dark fruits. Basic malt-fruity finish. Fine bodied. Likable (hotel room, Oslo 25.11.2013).

Bottle, Systembolaget. Almost clear dark golden with a white head. Aroma and taste of light hops, grass, tofee and some notes of spices. The finish was on the dry side. Drinkable but nothing sensational.

Clear amber beer with a good pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and a little crisp. Light malt cream. Medium sweet bubblegum is well integrated as are tangy fruits and a little maple. Whisper of spice. Comes together very well. Finishes semi dry.

The Sampler, Brooklyn 12oz: Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma is piny hops, some citrus, caramel malts, and maybe maple for somebody else. Taste is hoppy and a tad bit sweet. Halfway through drinking this I forgot this was a maple beer. In fact, I don’t know if I ever even considered it. Oh well.

Bottle from Corks of Cotham, Bristol. Attractive, reddish-amber in colour with a big, off-white head. Decent, citrus fruits, a touch of maple syrup sweetness, solid mlats and a gently bitter finish with a touch of hop. Good.

12 oz bottle given to me by Enniskillen. Nose is sweet caramel with a hint of citrus, floral, and maple. Clear amber with a bigger, heavy lacing beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet and white peppery with a small contrasting bitterness. Very good for an amber.
