BigLeaf Maple Autumn Red is a quaffable, well-balanced American red ale with character. Its malty complexity and coppery color come from a combination of two caramel malts, pale malt, and a hint of maple syrup. To complement these flavors, we used three additions of Nelson Sauvin hops in the brewkettle and a unique blend of Nelson Sauvin, Citra, and Cascade for dry hopping. A hint of maple — including bigleaf maple — syrup in every brew perfectly complements the malty complexity, balanced hoppiness, and rich fall hue of BigLeaf Maple Autumn Red.

Bottle sampled at a tasting event. From notes. Pine and citrus with a large caramel and maple dose. Pretty good, but nothing I would seek out again.

Bottle from Drinkmonger. Bright orange body with a thick off-white head. Light carbonation. Excellent lacing. Aroma of honey, lemon cake, stewed tea and wood. Well balanced flavour - sharp lime, caramel, maple syrup and pine. Gorgeous, subtle and earthy. Medium body with a very oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. What a fantastic beer.

330ml bottle from Borough Wines. Has a lovely autumnal aroma, fresh & colourful with a very light sweetness. Taste is extremely bitter, sharp pine with little in the way of maple or caramel sweetness. In that sense this was a little disappointing, but taste-wise it’s pretty full-on with those hops.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - stunning amber with a perfect lacy head. Nose - cake mixture with a fresh pine or even lavender note. Taste - biscuits some toffee then fresh lemon pith. Palate - medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a dry finish. Overall - like a slightly sweetened ESB. Very good.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours clear reddish amber with a big white head. Maple syrup clearly there in the aroma, with some earthy, malty and light spice notes. Slight sweetness on the taste. Finishes short, but a good beer.

Not bad initially, had some bitter inthere, a little more than anticipated. Then it mellows out only to come forward again. Pretty good co2 when on tap at the mad mex in robinson. yes, in the end there seems to be too much personality. Needs a few manners.

Bottle. Citrus peel hops, apricot, and toasty caramel malt aroma. Hazy amber with a large ivory head. Sweet bready malt and astringent bitter herbal hops flavor. Body on the light side of medium, moderate carbonation. With all the talk of malt and maple syrup in the description, I was surprised at how hop forward this one was, and didn’t really get maple out of it at all (and I KNOW maple syrup, since my family operates a small sugar bush).

Tap at Sheffield Tap. Reddy amber with an off white, thick, lasting head. Aroma is a curious mix of toffee, banana, Demerara sugar and grapefruit. The kitchen sink has been chucked in there too. Taste has an initial sweetness, that quickly gives way to a slightly jarring bitterness. It’s different, definitely. Not really for me though.
