Anchoress is our Flanders-Style Red Ale aged in oak barrels on cherries. Anchoress was fermented and aged entirely in red wine barrels from a small producer in Woodinville, WA. After a year in oak, half of the batch was aged on Montmorency cherries for 3 months, and then blended back into the original batch before bottling.

Tasting at SF, Vancouver
Cloudy red-amber color. Deep aroma of cherry kernels with a vinous layer. Bold mouthfeel, puckery sourness, but backed by large amount of fruit, lingering fruitiness, balsamic vinegar.
Excellent Sour.

Bottle - Soured plum and raisin with brown sugar. Cloudy gold with a small beige head. Soured plums, brown sugar and acidic notes. Maybe a bit too sour and one sided.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is loaded with tart and sweet cherries, light oak, and some red wine barrels. Flavour is loaded with tart and sweet complex cherries, with light oak, gentle acidity and red wine barrel. The cherries are really wonderfully incorporated in here. Complex and beautifully balanced. Excellent.

Cloudy and reddish-brown. Not much head. On the nose, lots of cherries and that seems to lend an almost balsamic note. There's cherry, tartness, oak...not bad. Quite complex. Lots of fun.

Draft pour at Holy Mountain. A reddish orange pour. Both sweet and sour cherry aroma going on. A bit like cherry pie. Aromatic, and very nice. A good balance of malt and sour cherry. The grains actually outlast the cherry impressions. A nice oak like, dry finish. Very pleasant sour.
