Bottle bought @ Ølbutikken. Pours clear amber with a fizzy white head that slowly dissipates without any lacing. Smell is sweet with caramel, plums, apricots, alcohol and golden syrup. Taste is intense and sweet with alcohol, toffee, sweet pears, ripe grapes and dates. Finish is dray and rather bitter with lots of alcohol.

Purchased at Hyde Park Wine & Spirits in Cincinnati, OH; enjoyed after a good long work week on a cool early fall Friday. Appearance is a red/amber hybrid with a large white head that simmers down a bit and rims around the glass, very small carbonation bubbles slowly rise to the top. Aroma of sweet and caramel, like a Tootsie Roll, but with a slightly fruity raisiny presence. Taste is strong but smooth, still maintains the caramel candy flavor and the alcohol packs a punch, but the smoothness really balances it out. It’s ’chewy’ in a way, heavily bodied, with good carbonation. It doesn’t jump out at me as a great barley wine, it’s very good but I think there are much better varieties on the market. Still glad I got to try though.

12 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours a mostly clear coppery amber with a small beige head. Light aroma for a barley wine, with light caramel, toasted bready malts and some candied sugar. Exceedingly sweet flavour, with an overload of candied sugar and caramel, with a sweet, boozy finish. Cloyingly sweet, with an alcoholic burn. Unbalanced and unsophisticated.

Dark copper / amber colored beer with a small off-white head. Average smell and a light hoppy, sweet taste. Good mouthfeel. Original rating: 7-4-7-4-15=3.7. -- Re-rate September 10th 2015. Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Thompson, Niilstrong and Bobson. Nice red color, average to medium sized off-white to beige head. Typical barley wine sweet flavor and aroma with some alcohol. A touch of caramel, overripe fruits and leaves. Nice.

12 oz bottle. Pours orange amber with lots of fine particles and an off-white head. Sticky honey/toffee aroma with biscuit. Flavor again is toffee, honey, with toasty biscuit and little bits of caramel. Some slight oxidation notes, that is, a little bit of a wet cardboard thing. Dark fruit and banana. At times a little plastic, even, but that’s very infrequent. Not my favorite, but it’s certainly pleasant enough.

Pours a lighter hue than you’d expect from a Barleywine, amber with tons of little thingies bouncing around the mire. The head flares up briefly, but doesn’t last very long. Smells malty as hell, but with a strange stewed-carrot undertone that gets scary. The taste follows these lines, coming out incredibly English for a Yankee ale. A liquor-fueled malt-bomb, Blithering Idiot blows out your tastebuds with a Marianas Trench of malted barley. Finishes with a prolonged alcohol burn, which matches the whisky heart of the brew. Feels hot, and it should, but a little Blithering Idiot stretches the sobriety a long way. (5/11/09)

Bottle. Creamy white good mostly deminishing head. DArk yellow colour. Heavy malty and light hopy aroma. Great honey notes. Moderate bitter very nice flavor. Long great honey finish. Creamy palate. Nice.

Bottle: poured a coppery orange brown with a huge off white head. The aroma was a sweet sticky fruit with loads of malt. Taste is harsh alcohol very up front with tons of fruit and malt. Finishes with a warming feeling.

Bottle from Bierzwerg. Cloudy red copper color with thin white head. Good carbonation. Raisins, honey in aroma. Taste, honey, grain, grapefruit. Dry finish. Nice beer.
