bottle from ølbutikken clear brown, almost no head. mild aroma, faint malty, faint hoppy. very mild for an american. flavor is sweet dark fruity, alc. dry malts, faint spicy bitter, alc. bitterness. palate is fine, leading slightly to the smooth side. A typical european barley wine, for its kind, pretty fresh. Alc. is almost too much.

Pours a nice looking medium to deep copper with a fluffy off white head. Aroma is of dried fruits, some caramel and a hint of alcohol. Taste is sweet, fruity, more malty than hoppy. Some alcohol is definitely present in the taste. Mouthfeel is thick, sweet, and a bit sticky. Carbonation is low, but adequate. Not my favorite barleywine, definitely could benefit from a bit of hop presence.

Used a snifter. Color is a hazy brown, that nearly looks orange. The head was small and died down to a ultra thin layer that left lines of lacing. Nose is Grape and sweet malt, with possibly just a hint of apple. Taste is a bit complex. Up front you get a grape flavor, let a sip linger on your tongue and you get a raisin. In the finish as well as through out--- you get a malty sweetness with a bit of the alcohol. The alcohol isn’t over powering and it’s not so sweet you can’t drink it, like certain other Barley Wines. Medium / full bodied.

Big Beer Sampler Pack: Pours a clear amber with a quickly dissipating tan head. Strong fruity aroma, along with some alcohol, and a whole lot of malts. When its warm, you can smell it from a good few feet away. Some hops in the taste. Really, really malty. Not too sweet, so true to the advertising. Alcohol is definitely there in the taste. Kind of tangy. Almost syrupy body, which is of course completely and utterly unsurprising. At bars, this beer is sometimes the best alcohol to price ratio though and that earns it some points. My girlfriend gets it if it is there for that reason.
