Bottle [Vintage 2005]. @ Thisted Tasting by Maria.. Clear medium to dark amber color with a small, fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, dark raisin, wood - oak, light alcoholic. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a long to average duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. (120408)

2009-09-02, bottle at Akkurat, Stockholm, vintage 2004, 5 years old, 7-5-7-4-14=37
Hazy red-amber color, hazy; creamy head. Caramel aroma, with a plum side, and some alcohol. Reasonable body stength, mature caramel flavor, medium sweetness, plum touch and raisins; correct bitterness, but the final is not sweet as it should be. So aged, it reminds me more an American version of Belgian Strong Ale than a Barley Wine.
2007-04-25, bottle, 8-4-8-4-17=41
Beautiful amber color; thin persistent head. Malty aroma, spicy, perfumy; interesting. Malty flavor, not too sticky, spicy, peppery; sweetness and balanced bitterness; the alcohol burns a bit. A very good strong ale, powerful; too much yeast in the bottle. More Belgian style (the yeast?) than English.

12oz bottle via trade with crizay. This is one of those nights I was feeling like a blithering idiot. Pours a clear copper with inch high bubbly tan head. The aroma is a bit light and doesn’t really hide the big ABV. I get plums, raisins, a hint of hay, pale malts (oddly enough) and some alcohol. The flavor starts with cherries, raisins, dates and plum fruitiness. This was followed by lightly roasted to pale malts. Throughout the experience there’s an under tone of alcohol and hotness. Into the aftertaste each of the flavor components lingers for a good while with sweet dark fruitiness cut with alcohol and pale maltiness. Maybe this could use a couple more years to mellow.

Medium offwhite head. Amber body with yeast floaties. Sugary firm malty aroma with alcoholic caramel notes. Sweet tropical fruit and earthy caramel taste with chalky resiny notes. Nice! (Bottle at Knut Albert’s.)

Taster at my homebrew club meeting. 05 Nov 2007 at 04:04 Light malt smell, color is a little pale for its style, but still a hearty brown. Kind of a bitter malt taste, with plenty of astringency. Dry, with a soda style combination. No idea what vintage this was, but the chunks in the bottle (hop bits?) were also a bit of a problem. Again, I’ve still got one in my cellar, so I’ll rerate from a whole bottle later.

It has a delicious bready cherry aroma with a woody edge, rather like a cherry pie in a maple pie safe. The color is a muddy ochre. The taste is sweet, alternating between bubble gum, candy, and horehound, with a mossy undertone. The taste of moss fades to weak grass and prune. This beer has outstanding complexity, acceptable balance, and a chewy mouthfeel. The alcohol is hardly noticeable.

Bottle Pours a clear mahagony, witha small beige head and spotty lacing. Aroma is lightly toasted malts, caramel, and hazelnuts. Flavor is nuty sweet and significant ABV. They seem to blend well and it goes down smooth. Not so much hop bitterness, but balanced all the way. Nice smooth rich feel and a late ABV bun at the end. Very nice BW. Thanks Jake65 via DocLock for this great BW.

Bottle: Clear copper color with a large beige head. Nice lacing. Sweet aroma of fruits, citrus, caramel, malt, and light alcohol. Sugary sweet comes to mind. Taste is more subtle fruitiness, citrus, banana, caramel, and warming alcohol trailer. Some maltiness as well. Thanks DocLock for this one.
