Bottle from whole foods while scavenging supplies. Pours rosy brown with this head. Nose is fruity and malty. Tastes of lovely dark fruits plums raisins, figs. It’s sweet but not cloyingly so. You also get malt, earth, leather, and tobacco. Lively palate and slight warming finish which is appreciated since I just came inside from walkings dogs in 20 degree weather

0.355l bottle. This is a near murky-plum-amber colored little thing absolutely packed to the bone with floating dark particles and a near non-existing off-white and sidesticking top. Sweet and caramelized on the aroma. Clear red fruits, pomegranate, flour and alcohol. Not extreme. It's average+ on the carbonation and it has a strange thin mouthfeel. Sweet and a bit watery flavors as well. Some alcohol shines through with a thin caramel and concentrated fruity flavor with sweet raisins and bitter nuts. Warming finish. Having this with some quite picante blue cheese, and it pairs up quite well. Still, have to admit I was hoping for a little bit more perhaps, but I'm definitely not complaining. 05.10.2012

Bottle at home (thanks to Kurt for an IP trade) 18/12/12. Pours a lightly obscured dark amber with a thin off white head that leaves a few bubbles and spots after a minute. Nose is sweet sugars, malt, toffee fudge, butter popcorn, light wood, booze. Taste comprises dark fruits, dried fruits - prune, dates, figs, sweet sugars, toffee, touch of booze. Full bodied, soft carbonation, boozey sweet finish. This one improved as it warmed and the carbonation fell away a little (gained +1 on taste and palate), Alcohol is evident but fairly well integrated.

12oz bottle. Blithering Idiot is really a classic East Coast Barleywine, and I guess that just really suits my palate or something. Really fresh and doughy, I think it’s insane that someone would want to lay this down for a few years. Bold and rich, figgy fruity tones among the rum tinged caramel maltiness. Really clean somehow, despite the huge nature of the beer. A classic!
