On tap @ Beer Temple. Redbrown color, hazy. Dense, off white head. Aroma’s: wood, red wine, some sweetness, umami, some roast. Retronasal it’s mostly red wine & malty sweet. Flavor is dry (tannines), red wine, a bit sweet, a bit vinous sour. Alcohol is warming. Medium bodied. Long finish with red wine, dry, bit roasted, bitter. Barrel aging could have been a bit shorter...

Bottle, 375ml. A big, dense, off-white head leaves lacings as the hazy, dark amber beer leaves the glass. Wine, alcohol, wood, piney hops, some beef stock, caramel and dried fruits in the aroma. Lightly warming on the palate, full-bodied and softly carbonated, with some chocolate, as well as coffee, dried fruits and resiny, flour-ish hops. Alcohol too. Lasting finish with a nice bitterness. A pleasant one indeed, although a bit boozy in the flavor. 120905

Keg at Craft Beer Co., London. Pours at first murky red-brown but it clears into a lovely, translucent ruby with a fine, off-white head. The nose holds aged malts, light caramel, berries, nice dark wood. big sweet flavor, good dry wood and vinous character, ripe berries, subtle alcohol, rich oak. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, very dry with tons of dry wood, medium sweetness, well toasted malts, mild brown sugar and soft caramel. Great dry, vinous character throughout, not overly sweet. Great.

Location: Draft at Mission Dolores, 9/8/12
Aroma: Nose has strong booze and malt notes with some grape
Appearance: Pours a clearish dark caramel-orange color with a small beige head
Flavor: The taste has some sweet malts, some boozy flavors, light oak, and lightly tart
Palate: The body is fairly full and fairly hot, it has a soft carbonation, and a slightly hotter finish
Overall Impression: This one is really interesting and really boozy. Definitely a sipper. I'm glad I tried it. I can't imagine drinking much more then a small glass of this one.

Mango to cream-yellow, very good head over very deep red-brown beer, lively carbonated with fine bubbling; Alcohol, fusels and C-hops, very fruity (citruspeel, kumquat, figs,...) Again alcohol very much in front; warmin, sweet-bitterish. Some dark chocolate too, and red, vinificating fruit; brown mushroom sauce. Quite well-carbonated, fully viscous and full bodied; Alcoholwarming. Aftertaste is definitely fusely-vinous, with incense aroma. Quite good BW, if severe.

Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen
Cloudy dark amber and ruby color. Wonderful aroma, the classic malt of the Bad Worse merges perfectly with light red fruits, berries, and very light vanilla and oak. Strong malt and caramel flavor, evident but not excessive sweetness, some vanilla, with a mild note of red fruits and light acidity; the strong bitterness is maybe a clash here; there is some expected alcohol warmth; light impression of nuts too in the final.
The wine barrel adds an interesting note, but it’s not very cohesive, and doesn’t stand up against some best examples from memory (Fish Tale…).
