This beer is named after our good friend, Mr. Henrik Papsoe, who has reached 10,000 ratings this year at www.ratebeer.com. Mr. Papsoe reflects sweetness and those who have had the pleasure of meeting him have found to their cost that he is sweet, obliging, and solid, yet also complex. He is to be enjoyed in small quantities, but nevertheless his alcohol and generous nature is a delight to be warmed by. Even though Mr. Papsoe is soft, he can easily be aged. Due to long-time aging on barrels, Mr. Papsoe has notes of vanilla, bourbon, and wood. One of the ingredients is a special produced dark Muscovado syrup, which provides him with his full body and sweetness. If you have a sweet tooth that you happily fill with sweets, this beer is particularly well-suited. Well, actually we would claim that we have filled adult candy onto bottles.

Bottle form the most generous and cool and wonderfull Mr. Papsø (enormous thanks!). Obvously, batch no. 97. Poured an opaque dark brown body with a small off white head. The bourbon shows strongly in the nose, with vinuous notes (maybe raisins), but it’s generally soft and creamy and lovely. There is more of the same bourbon-like notes in the taste, quite soft. Vinuous notes, raisins, some herbal notes, with only some little warmth from the alcohol. Extremely balanced, possibly the best bourbon barrel notes I’ve ever tasted. Not much aftertaste, maybe some grain. Superb stuff, Amager OWNS. As does Papsoe!

25 cl bottle from Henrik Papsoe at RBSG 2009! Thanks tons Henrik! (that would be metric tonnes) Best by 2020; batch 97.Slight gushing and a huge head; clear brown with a huge beige head. Nose is sweet candi sugar, light bourbon, prunes, and raisins.Flavor is slightly sweet and peppery with a raisin pie effect and a bourbony alcohol heat.Finish is alcohol warmth and yeastiness.

Bottle. Amber- orange colour with a beige head. Aroma is vanilla, malt, dried fruits, alcohol. Flavour is wood, sweet, alcohol, licorice, roasted malt, burnt sugar, vanilla, dried fruits, spices. Full body. Very nice beer.

25cl bottle pours a very cloudy, caramel brown with almost zero head. Aroma is sweet, boozy, prunes, raisins, grapes, candy sugar. Flavor is sweet, caramel, pitted fruits, candy sugar, boozy, rum, coconut. Full bodied, a little boozy on the end.

Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar - tak! Murky, ugly brown, coca-cola style head. Aroma is balsamic vinegar, sour apples, grapes. Taste is very vinuous, light milk chocolate, acidic finish. Odd, but not unpleasant.

Big thanks to madsburg for sending this across the pond. The little bottle pours hazy dirty copper – brown with clear copper edges and very thin tan head. The aroma carries notes of deep dark fruitiness, some rich sweet malts, caramel and soft notes of oak. The taste is rich and pretty bright with prunes, raisins, apricots, plums and hints of sweet creamy malts. The barrel-ness comes through soft and mild midway and into the finish. For the type of beer this is I think it could use more age to smooth out and improve on its potential rich complexity.

Bottle that I picked up at Bierkoning, Amsterdam, October 2009 consumed 26-12-09 Pours murky brown with off-white filmy head. Aroma is very good and is bourbon, oak, vanilla and dark sweet sugars. Taste is quite sweet with a whisky type flavour lingering throughout, slight dryness, alcohol is quite noticeable though never, ever harsh, woody, soft, with a noticeable sweetness. I wish the flavour had lived up to the promise of the aroma. A8 A4 F6 P3 Ov14 3.5

A gusher. Medium coarseish light brown head. Hazy opaque dark brown body. Syrupy roasty whisky aroma with chocolate notes. Intense alcoholic sweet Belgian licorice and spice taste with roasty acidic dark sugar notes. Some faint smoke and traces of honey, too. Full body. Considerable alcohol heat. Spicy seeds of paradise and cinnamon aftertaste with floral notes. Very nice. One of the best non-Belgian Belgians I’ve had. (0.25l bottle, some wine store, Odense.)

The aroma is sweet with notes of wood, and lighter notes of bourbon, caramel, and malt. The flavor is quite powerful and quite sweet with notes of malt, bourbon, wood, caramel, and roasted malt. The alcohol starts a burn in the mouth very early and it lasts for a long time both on the palate and tongue. The aftertaste of bourbon and wood lingers for a very long time.
