Bottle. This pours a lovely brown color with some red highlights and is very transparent. Head is smallish and looks a little like tan soap suds. Aromas are vintage Jolly Pumpkin: sour and funky yeasts with a touch of spicing that is hard to define. Flavor is pungently sour and wild yeasty with a bit of a spice backfire at the end. Lemony citrus presence, a bit of a woody earth tone and a considerable amount of spicing in the form of cinnamon and white pepper with something odd from time to time. I’m wondering if it is the cacao, but there is a chalky little presence that makes itself known from time to time... I don’t know quite what to make of this, because, like most of my Jolly Pumpkin experiences I find that first sip like diving into a frozen lake... only to find that as I work my way through a bottle I’m totally upset that it is gone. Strange stuff, that JP.

This ale poured a deep copper colour with a nice foamy light tan head. To the nose there was scents of very ripe fruit / cider, vinegar and glue? First taste was very acidic with strong flavours of cider and fruit juices. Sharp to the tongue. After the fruit passes the flavours of butter and a little cocoa. the finish is acidic with a lasting flavour of butter and nuts. Very complex. Almost too complex and bold for these taste buds.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a small white head. The aroma has malts, yeast, and a sour fruit smell. Some kind of sour malt dominates the flavor and is joined by the yeast and a hint of citrus and spice. It’s a solid beer, but the sourness wasn’t doing it for me, at least not in this beer. (100th Michigan beer rated... nifty)

750 from pantanap last Feb.; nose has chocolate, caramel, and some light funkiness; Clear honey-brown (color of a cinnamon grizzly bear for you hunters) with a big beige glass-lacing head; flavor of tart dark fruit, berries, and caramel; finish is peppery spices and tartness!

Fully hazy, amber-brown beer; small yellowish rim. Fuselalcohols, esters, orange peel, spices. Orange peel again in the taste, as well as strawberries, alcohol, sweet-sourish, and again obviously full of fusels (and quite possibly, fermented at demented temperatures, for doing "Belgian"...). Warming up, some coriander. Well bodied, but well-attenuated at the same time. Good yeast, this one. Sweet-sour and forced Belgain. OK, quite nice, but it IS forced. Hmm, well this beer promises alot more complexity than it delivers. Starts out with a cloudy copper apperance and large foaming head. The aroma is initially deeply fruity, with notes of peach and orange, but seems to quickly switch to a more simplistic doughy yeastiness with a slight touch of funky sour brett. The flavor is also lightly tart with a mild brett presence, yeasty and surprisingly quite dry, almost puckering so towards the finish. Light fruitiness but difficult to flesh out given the total dryness of this beer. Hints at spiciness but I could not uncover the cacao and cinnamon.
