750 ml bottle into signature teku glass, 2016 vintage. Bottle #34? of 1???. Mostly rubbed off. Pours thick pitch black color with a thin creamy tan head, that reduces to a thin ring of lace that lingers. Minimal spotty lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, fudge, white grape/wine, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of vanilla, licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Slight booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, sugar, vanilla, muscat barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, fudge, white grape/wine, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of vanilla, licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal, grassy, roast, charred bitterness; wine/oak tannin spiciness; and wine tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, fudge, white grape/wine, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, dark bread/crust, vanilla, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, sugar, vanilla, muscat barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a nice hop/roast bitter/sweet and wine/oak tang/tart/spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness, and wine/oak tannin spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and extremely full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready/slick, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 15%, with minimal lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged Russian imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, sugar, vanilla, muscat barrel, and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish. Fantastic soft feel for the finishing gravity. Amazingly rich malt complexity with sugar, coffee, and great wine barrel presence/integration; solid earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on base style as expected. This wasn’t as fruity from the wine as I expected. Got better as it warmed.

Bottle: Black.....with a dark tan head. Smoky dark chocolate, tobacco aroma. Taste is rich and sweet, chewy chocolate malt, tobacco, vanilla. Very creamy......didn't pick up a lot of notes of the grapes (unless sampled side-by-side with the regular Dark Lord) ((which Shrubber85 and I did, because that's how we roll.)) This one aged really nicely..... Excellent !!!

Bottle. Raisin, coffee, chocolate malt, and earthy hay aroma. Black with small brown head. Very sweet raisin/prune, coffee, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Nice balance. Expected this to be pretty sweet but not too bad (maybe letting it sit for 5 years helped). Nice smooth beer.

(Tap sample @ CBC 2016 Green Session, Copenhagen) Black pour with a tiny head. Aroma and flavour are both extremely sweet, raw sugar and molasses, sweet grape juice, chocolate, light soy, wood, alcohol. Full sticky body with soft carbonation and some substantial boozy burn. The barrel just feeds way too much sweetness into an already sweet base, and smooths out the drying roast but not the booze. I think it's probably rather well-made but for me it's just way too sweet to take more than a couple of sips. Maybe out of a festival environment it's easier? Or if I just imagined it was liqueur? I am not sure.

Sampled from the tap at GTMW 2016. Pours an oily black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has strong sweet dark grains, roasted malts, chocolate and a touch of dark wine backing. Flavor has lots of sweet dark grains, chocolate and roasted malts with just touch of wine barrel.
