F: big, light tanned, not long lasting. C: dark brown, hazy. A: roasted, malt, chocolate, toffee, dried fruits, coffee, cocoa, dates. T: malt, chocolate, cocoa, mocha, dried fruits, brown sugar, medium body, medium carbonation, straightforward and for me more like abbey dubbel but good, enjoyed, 33cl bottle from Spar supermarket in Oostende.

Poured into a chalice, this had an appearance of dark brown color. A finger’s worth of off white foamy head snuck underneath at a nice pace. Sly rings of lace.
The aroma spits out baked apple, vanilla sweetness, Belgian sugars with a sly Belgian spice underneath. Milk chocolate, a touch of coffee bean and some warming dark fruits with a crisp little dry woody edge flowing in neatly.
The flavor yields initially to the sweet side of those previously mentioned aromas. Dry woodiness comes in with a touch of the coffee. Apples sweet bready aftertaste flows into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice balancing sweet feel sticking to my tongue nicely. Not cloying, almost but malty smooth.
Overall, is this supposed to be a Dubbel? That’s what I say. I would have this again whatever it’s supposed to be.

Bottle from Brewers Haven. Pours out a dark brown with small foamy beige head. Was hoping this would be better than the "From Heaven", but not so. Malty, roasty aroma close to porter. Taste also seems to mimic a porter, hints of chocolate, but a bit of Belgian yeast turns this back into Belgian territory. The more I taste it, this seems awfully close to a porter.

11 January 2019. At Cambrinus, Bruges. Shared with the lovely Anke. Rerate because I felt like it. Pours hazy dark brown, red hue, with a lasting, small, frothy, tan head; little lacing. Aroma of butterscotch, cookie dough, syrup, candied date, mocha, licorice, toast, milk chocolate (but somewhat artificial, like 'Koetjesreep'). Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, notes of caramel & licorice, a bit syrupy & dough-like; nearly cloying but balanced by a medium roasted bitterness with toast, 'basic' fondant & faint coffee; touch of raisin & slight sour blackcurrant. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, lingering dried dark fruit, toast, butterscotch. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Good stuff!

Hazy brown, small beige head. Aroma has hints of dried fruit, sweet malt. Sweet, malty flavour, dark sugar, notes of coffee. Mouthfeel is light, somewhat watery.

Zwart bier met schuim. Smaak is bitter en licht zoet, koffie, brood, chocolade en karamel. Erg goed.

Casi negra, espuma poco duradera, de aspecto ligero. Aroma muy tostado, con predominio de café. En boca cuerpo ligero, entra muy bien. Gas adecuado. Y sabor tostado, dulce sin exagerar y con postgusto excelente a chocolate, muy marcado... que queda en boca. Falta cuerpo, pero está sabrosa.

Bottle at Brasserie V. Massive foamy beige/off-white head. Funky, oily black malt notes. Not that impressive for a Belgian ale. Sweet, oily, doughy bakers chocolate. Has a nice mouthfeel, but overall not that great. OK.

Bottle, 6.6%. Distinct aroma of roasted malts. Clear dark brown colour with a red shine. Big stable light brown head. The flavour is a lot like the aroma, very roasted, quite bready, creamy, papery and dusty. Full-bodied. Quite a flavourful beer, and I like it.
