A fruity blond beer with an explosion of citrus, resulting from dry-hopping with the American hops breed Cascade. In order to maintain the hoppy aroma as much as possible, the beer isn’t filtered. It is slightly cloudy and has a snow white head. It is served in a robust, accompanying glass. The beer was created in honour of Ter Dolen’s co-founder Armand Desplenter, the father of current director Mieke Desplenter.

Pour is a clear golden with a huge white head. Aroma is honeydew, more honey on top and a sugary sweet malt. Flavor is not as sweet and more tame. Some biscuit malt a bit of fresh fruit with some green fresh hops. This was a fine ale that I though at first would be a sweet bomb but it ended up being a fine super carbonated Belgian ale.

Strongish ’edelbier’ the female brewer of Dool made in honour of her father, named Armand Desplenter. Off-white, creamy head, misty golden blonde colour. Aroma of banana, white bread, lemon peel, red apple, pineapple, caramel, ginger. Soft exotic fruitiness in onset with refreshing citrussy sourishness, rounded and mellow mouthfeel, some caramel and honeyish sweetishness, grassy hop bitterish finish. Well-balanced and tasteful. Tasted from tap at Brussels Bierweekend 2013.

Pale golden colour. Very strong aroma and taste of pale malt. Some fruity hops in the aroma too. It’s really fresh. This beer takes a yeasty Belgian blond and adds oodles of pale malts and lightly fruity, lightly bitter hops. Great balance and very sessionable.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/14/2015. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest, pear, apple, white grape, honey, biscuit, floral, grass, light clove, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and fruity/earthy yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest, pear, apple, white grape, honey, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, clove, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy herbal bitterness/yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest, pear, apple, white grape, honey, biscuit, clove, floral, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of hop, malt, and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; with a nice malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medum-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good hoppy Belgian strong pale ale. Good robustness and balance of hop, bready malt, and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.
