Famed bottom-fermented (so German style) dark Bock from an established brewery in the southeastern Netherlands. Clear orangey copper colour, indeed looking a lot like the average German Bock, under a thinnish, lacing, yellowish light beige head. Aroma of cookie dough, warm toasted bread, butterscotch, bourbon, hazelnuts, ’speculoos’, dried cranberries, leather, baked banana, biscuit, straw, tea, earthy hops, iron. Taste begins sweetish, clean, caramelly, nutty, with a light sourish touch and medium carbonation; low fruitiness as expected from a lager, the basic fruitiness from the malts aside. In the middle, the malty sweetishness continues, becoming a bit doughy and bitterishly toasted, bit metallic, lean and supple mouthfeel, leading to a finish of earthy and leafy hops (but subdued, as expected from the style), lingering malt sweetness and some warming, brandy-like alcohol, though in all still well hidden; sourishness continues in a gentle way, as well as the sweetness, which manages to stay under the ’cloying’ level. In all, this is a technically well-made lager Bock, without any noteworthy flaws. A good introduction to the style, and justly a kind of classic.

Dark amber. Small beige head. Aroma of red berries. Caramel in taste. Good drinkbility. Round mouthfeel. Decent, but not as much aroma and taste as one would expect from a -ator bock bier.

Bottle, kindly donated by McTapps, many thanks Sabine. Amber color with thick white head. Malt, fruits, candies in aroma. Taste, caramel malt, burned sugar, red fruits, raisins, notes of alcohol. Sweet finish. Good.

A clear amber color. Caramel and fruit aroma. Burnt caramel, hints of fruit, good balancing dryness from the roasted malts

Ansonsten eigentlich ganz lecker!
