Strong Scotch Ale, draft pint poured at Hop and Hound. 5.4% A little confused, but I'll go with it. Moderate rich caramel malt, bready background. Dark fruit hints. Full of malt flavor. Bold, some spice in the late linger. Interesting. Not bad.

Draught at The Local, Bellingham, WA; 6.2% ABV
Hazy dark amber color. Semi-sweet amber Ale, with no real character, and with some butter. How is this a Scotch Ale?
Not very good.

Draft - Caramel and some butterscotch. Clear copper with a decent white head. Burnt caramel, nice light grains and a caramel burnt finish. A bit too much burnt sugar notes.

On tap at North Fork, pours a clear orange amber with a small white head. Aroma is big on caramely bready malts. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of caramely bready malts upfront, followed by some hop resins and noticeable alcohol heat. Seems a little hot, but it's reasonably done. Solid.

Draught at the brewpub (6.4%). Clear chestnut brown. Neutral aroma. Sweet with clean mouthfeel and medium to full body. Heavy on roasty malt with obvious crystal malt character. Medium bitterness. A scotch ale needs better malt character than this.

Dark amber colour. Light toffeeish aroma. Chewy, big toffee flavour with demerara. Long finish. Lots of hops, too, providing a bitterness that clashes with the rich malts because it takes the beer in two different directions at the same time. So definitely a soft bittering hop would complement the malts better.

Dark brown color with toffee and apple notes. Sorry, but I just didn't really grove on any of their beers!
