Bottle at THE Sour and Saison Tasting, London. Thanks to Bruce for keeping the tasting going long after the sours and saisons had been drank. Pours black-brown with a creamy, beige cap. Tangy chocolate nose. Big sweet flavor though not at all cloying, with baking cocoa, moderate alcohol, dark berries and raisins in particular. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with dry chocolate, more dark and dried fruits. Great stuff, nicely balanced.

Bottle shared by Jay at tasting at my house. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of yeast, chocolate, flaked oats, oak and vanilla cream. Medium body. Smooth and subtle.

Shared bottle. A pitch black body with a minimal beige head. Quite strong aroma of dark, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dry fruit and some alcohol. Flavor is sweet, dark, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dry fruit, some bitterness and warming alcohol. Nice and smooth, lots of flavors with a fine balance, none of them really dominates. Full body with a rich and long aftertaste.

Bottle thanks to deeblo. It pours jet black, with a thin beige head. The nose is roasted malt, rich chocolate gateaux, dark fruit, tangy berry and wood. The taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, cherry, jaminess, charcoal, salted liquorice, bitterness, ash and underlying alcohol warmth, with a dry, roasty finish. Full body, lowish carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Well balanced, smooth and tasty. A rich and indulgent treat.

Pours a solid black with a huge fluffy tan brown head that shows great retention and minimal lacing. Smells of coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, roast, ash, grapes and other putted fruits. there’s a lot going on in the nose, take some time to let it warm and enjoy the aromas. The flavor is thick with darker sugars roast and caramel. There’s a lot of dark fruit flavor coming through as well as a bit of oaken vanilla, smoke and burnt sugar. Thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet syrupy mouthfeel. This is a big thick sweet roasty monster of a stout, but I’m not sure that this beer is any better than the sum of its parts. Glad I got to try it, but the difficulty getting this wasn’t justified by being blown away with the final product.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light sweet notes is subtler then I would have expected. Taste is a good mix between some roasted malt notes with light dry bitterness notes mix in with some light oak and black chocolate notes. Port barrel is not that discernable and probably would not have noticed if it wasn’t for the mention on the bottle. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad though I think I would stick to with the regular Black Albert.

Bottle from Struise Bruges Beershop. Pours very black with a huge creamy dark tan head. I’d swear it’s got blueberry in the aroma. It’s certainly berry, and not very reddish. Full bodied. Flavor is very dark berry with strongly burnt malt. It’s smooth. Heat is definitely present. But it’s a very different beer, and that doesn’t matter. It’s a beer that makes one think and think and think. Good stuff.

very dark brown color, blueberry chocolate pie, moderately sweet, very intense, slightly tart nose. Wow. Full bodied, slightly tart, prunes, blueberry, chocolate. Lingering blueberry finish.

Bottle, thanks to Baggio. Blueberry, chocolate nose, some phenols. High carbonation, but it is fine and light. Woody finish, big berry flavor, tons of berries, like a framboise with chocolate added. Not very stout-like, but tasty as hell.

Jet black beer, beige head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, dark chocolate and dried dark fruits. Quite bitter flavour, coffee bitterness, roasted malts. Finish coffee and roasted malts with some lasting bitterness.
Nice, but quite unbalanced.
