pFriem Sour IPA is kettle-soured for 20 hours and set to ferment, before getting two heavy doses of fresh, dry hops. We could tell you the result was a hoppy and refreshing beer with multiple layers of citrusy fruits, light acid and little to no bitterness, but why not taste it for yourself?

On tap at Beer Baron in Pleasanton. It pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is herbal and grassy with a little lemony acid. The flavor has the same herbal and grassy quality with some lemon and apricot. Very herbaceous with some sage and thyme. No bitterness. Very light bodied. Interesting stuff, and well done.

Bottle share courtesy of Jeremy. Very pale golden body. Smallest of bubbly heads. Light aroma, picks up a bit in taste. White grape-like notes. Just enough tartness to go with the subtle hops. More sour than IPA, but good all around.

500 mL bottle poured. Back in March I was in Hood River, and had to make the tough decision on which stop to make, between pFriem, or the Double Mountain/Logsdon corner. It seemed like an easy decision back then, but after a solid half dozen or so beers from these guys lately, I’m starting to think that I either made the wrong pick, or I need to make the trip back down sooner than later. Even if this wasn’t my flavor preference, its still a fun, unique style that has true character to it. Shiny golden pour with a lasting head. As much as I tried to convince myself that this was odd after the first few sips, it just keeps getting better. Soured fruit, and hops aroma. Flavor is cool, slightly dry grains up front, but transitions to an extremely juicy hop, and a tart that refuses to overpower the IPA quality. Overall a well effectuated sour here. A memorable one too. A scrupulous brew. Good.

Orange with a nice white hat. Citrus aroma with light sour underneath. Flavor starts citrus fruit, moves to light sourness, and back to the citrus with some tropical bright notes in here, too. Mild malt profile. Finish is sour fruit. A decent and interesting ale.

500 ml bottle purchased at the DeLaurenti market in Seattle, Washington. The pour is a clear yellow golden with a thin white head. The aroma is a bit of burning rubber (reminded me of 3 Fonteinen) along with grass and hay. The taste is lemon citrus, grassy, tart sour and a bit of the odd yeast aroma in the aftertaste. Flavors really came together as the beer warmed, and the aftertaste integrated nicely and really worked with citrus soft tartness The palate is light bodied with soft carbonation and the grass yeast lingering finish. This one was not particularly sour, and if I had it blind probably would not have called it an IPA, yet it really worked for me.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Hazy blond color. The aroma is penetrating, dank, fruity, juicy. Dry mouthfeel, with a nice crackery flavor, and plenty of good hops, piney, fruity, tropical. I don’t get much sourness.
Wonderful.
