Every beer has a story, here's Punkin Ale...
A full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. We brew our Punkin Ale with pumpkin meat, brown sugar and spices. As the season cools, this is the perfect beer to warm up with.
Punkin Ale is named after the seriously off-centered southern Delaware extravaganza Punkin Chunkin (check out some of these Discovery Channel videos of Punkin Chunkin, you gotta see it to believe it!). In fact, Punkin Ale made its debut as it claimed first prize in the 1994 Punkin Chunkin Recipe Contest. Yes, that was a full 6 months before we even opened our doors for business!
Since its debut, we've brewed Punkin Ale each and every fall. It is released right around Sept. 1 each year. When you find it, grab some extra because it's usually gone by Thanksgiving.

Well-balanced spice aroma, amber color, pleasing bitterness along with a complex but, again, balanced spice palette. Definitely NOT pumpkin pie filling in a bottle, this is a good representative for this seasonal staple.

Bottle by Cuso. Aroma badyan, clove, cinammon. Clear amber colour. Taste is nice pleasantly spicy, good combination, good balance with some caramel sweetness. Quite nice beer.

Bottle from radimd, many thanks. Deep golden color. Pumpkin, ginger, cinnamon, fruits in aroma. Taste, pumpkin, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg. Fruity finish. Enjoyable beer.

Spicy flavors dominate with clove and nutmeg. Clearish orange with no head - sherry like. Taste is spice dominated, like all of these types. Moderate bitterness with some spritzy carbonation aspects on the end.

Bottle from Harvest Market Deep amber/copper color with small off white head. Aromas of caramel pie spice earth and a hint of chocolate. Sweet brown sugary with a bit of caramel and a hint of chocolate. Pie spices a subtle and balance the sweetness quite nicely. Medium body with light to moderate carbonation. I’m not usually a fan of pumpkin beer, but I could drink this one. Its a shame it took me so long to taste this one.

Bottle. Amber color with large off-white foamy head, spicy pumpkin aroma, low carbonation, balanced pumpkin taste with a metallic tang at the end, medium finish with metallic aftertaste. If the metallic taste is not due to something that has gone wrong with this bottle, then it’s a big problem!

This was poured into pint glasses and mugs for as many times as I’ve had this.
The appearance was a nice hazy dark brown color with some light orange tinges along the sides. There was a nice white to off white one finger foamy head that dissipates within about a minute and left some nice lacing.
The smell had an abundance of pumpkin spices and letting some light ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and adding in the qualities of a roasty nutty Brown Ale.
The taste was mainly sweet and roasty adding a fairly decent nutty quality in it as well.
On the palate, it sat about a medium in body and a slight sessionable quality about it. The carbonation seems fairly subdued but still okay for the style.
Overall, I say this is one of the best Pumpkin Ales on the market these days.

12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, 2013 bottling. Pours slightly cloudy deep orange amber color with a 2 finger moderately dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of pumpkin, caramel, brown sugar, pear, apple, cinnamon, clove, toast, biscuit, nutmeg, herbal, floral, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good complexity and balance of pumpkin, spice, and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of pumpkin, brown sugar, caramel, pear, apple, biscuit, toast, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, herbal, floral, and herbal/yeast earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pumpkin, pear, apple, brown sugar, caramel, biscuit, toast, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish. Nice and well balanced pumpkin, malt, and spice flavors; but seems lacking in flavor robustness; with no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately creamy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice pumpkin ale. Well balanced pumpkin, malt, and spice flavors; but the flavor profile really doesn’t hit all the right notes for me. Still nicely enjoyable and smooth to drink overall.

Rating from 2010: Der Antrunk ist sehr laff, süßlich. Zum Hauptteil hin angenehm herb, malzig-süßlich. Ganz leicht nach Kürbis, nussig, süß. Der Nachgeschmack ist caramell-süß, leicht herb, etwas klebrig.
