Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Hops: Amarillo, Mosaic, Centennial

(Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-05-15) Amber colour. Not-so-big white head. Hops and some malts in nose. Full palate. Taste is mostly hops with some malts and salty liquorice. A bit too one-dimensional for my taste.

Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours copper with tan head. The aroma has semi sweet roasty malts with a bit of sticky chewy-ness and pine hops. The taste starts tart moving into full boil pine hop bitterness. Yum. It then becomes more and more roasty as the malts well up creating a malty roasty finish to nearly equal the intensity of the pine hops.

Bottle. Unclear medium amber orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly - fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, orange, light yeasty, soap. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, finish taste is like citrus tea. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (090408)

Bottle. Rich copper-amber beer with a nice dark cream coloed head. Grapefruit and caramel aroma with a bit of summer fruit and woodsiness. Nice grapefruit, pine, woodsy flavor with backing malt. Nice bitterness. Grapefruit, pine, caramel lingers. More to it than a pure PNW hop bomb. Tea or maybe begemot starts to show up and really come forward as you drink more.

12oz bottle pours a translucent reddish, copper amber with a sudsy, lacing white head. Aroma is extremely hoppy, strong lemon and pine with a malt backing lurking behind the hop resin. Flavor is heavy on the citrus fruits, spicy with plenty of pine and resin on the tongue. Finish is obviously bitter, but the mild sweetness also comes in at the very end. This is a nice IPA, but considering what I paid ($5.29), I think I’ll stick to the cheaper local micro IPAs that give me the same bang for less buck.
