Oh, another new world saison! now don’t get me wrong nor nothin’, the other one did go very well with ketchup chips and Carol Burnett. Like, a friday night of getting wasted and indeed it was a good choice but would I remember it the morning after? Would people be booking plane tickets from ’round the world to try it out? Well, ja, prolly naught. So the big gun kicks the hell outta jou - me and my sis in Vegas a year back, looking at these ferraris, they wanted ten bucks just to look at them - like ja right. But this stuff pours with this massijve head and an okay golden body, better than the usual anyway, but the aroma is again all golden lager like or decent pilsner - nuthin saison here, that serious funk like you’re hung over in a French farmhouse and all you want is a rotten sausage from Alsace as the farmer tells you to get the hell out of his barn and put your pants on and pretend you never met his daughter; there we go, you’re wandering around looking for some milk to have with your tea in the soft French farmlands of Yvelines. The taste is smooth but uninteresting, nothing exciting here, a lager flavour with hints of sharp wheat. And you’re like "that’s all there is?" and you’d be right. Seems like the new world saison misses a big chunk of the appeal, the raw farmhouse vibe, the leather-licking cow-kissing caresse that makes one memorable. No, a saison is not merely a lager with a twist of wheat malt - sadly that’s all we get here. But you’re out there in the French dude’s barn, hammerin’ away at them dairy cows hopin’ to get another angle at that farmhouse Francais poontang you almost had last night. If only you were a little more drunk you coulda made those moves. But the beer, it was just too weak and simple to gives jou that confidence. Take heed, brewers- if the boys ain’t gettin’ laid on your liquid jou ain’t doin’ sumpthin’ right. Peace out. Yo.

Draft - Light citrus and funk. Clear gold with a decent white head. Grains, some hay and earthy notes. Clean finish, but there is just not much there.

Draught at the brewery
Cloudy light amber color with compact head, not persistent. The aroma is mildly sour, fruity and puckery; a bit smokey; it needs a few minutes to fully develop. The body is thin and dry; yes, it has yeast character, but it’s rather harsh initially, woody, astringent, and probably provides the light vegetable note in the final; correct bitterness, apparently with a delicate fruity hop character in the final.
I may guess that French Saison is an invention of the yeast lab. This is not much more than randomly throwing a strong flavored yeast in a generic batch.
The result is not too bad, I just don’t get what’s the purpose.

On tap at Powell Street, pours a hazy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma brings out a lovely effervescent yeast character, with light spiciness. Flavour is along the same lines, with French saison yeast, a somewhat spicy character, and a bit of a dry woody quality. All in all, impressive with a Canadian attempt at a saison. Solid.
