brown colour, moderate sized creamy beige-ish head; aroma of biscuit, smoke-woody notes, some dried fruitiness and alcohol notes; taste of malty sweetness, smoke notes and spicy alcohol; not a conventional doppelbock, but really good

Bottle, BB 03 2013, large sample. Bottle is aged, but had this beer couple of times before, fresh as well as 1 year old. Definitely needed some age I notifed back then, so on purpose saved this one for a while. Rating this aged bottle now. Dark color, short frothy head. Aroma is a bit dusty, so a bit too much aged perhaps. Plenty of chocolate underneath, some cookie and biscuit. Some extra madeira now. Sticky sweetness from the fresh examole is more gone and balanced into big malty taste, with caramel, toffee and some molasses, but not sweet but malty and even a bit bitter. Velvety texture. Bit cherry and chocolate. Wonderful stuff.

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Dark brown colour, beige foam. Sweet nose of caramel, brown sugar and prunes. Sweet and malty, light bitter finish. Good beer in this style.

Complex and powerful, well balanced. First tiny bit acidic but then immediately the bittersweet kicks in and very slowly fades. Awesomeness.

0.33 l bottle as ’Imperial Doppelbock 2015’ from Mitra Den Bosch, at 11.0% abv and 45 EBU, best before end of 2018. Clear, dark red with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, tan head. Sweet-malty aroma of molasses, brown sugar, some raisins and prunes with notes of alcohol. Sweet, fruity-malty taste of raisins, prunes, molasses and caramel, followed by a medium long, average bitter finish with notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Medium to full body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very tasty stuff, apart from some notes in the aroma no alcohol detectable. However, although it is supposed to be a doppelbock, it may lack some complexity.

From a 330ml bottle on 19/6/2015 (ABV listed as 11%). Pours a slightly cloudy amber with no ead. Has a strong malty nose, with lots of caramel, chocolate and toffee. In the mouth, it’s a really sweet malty monster. Toffee, butterscotch and caramel dominate, but there are also hints of chocolate and prunes. There’s a spicy, slightly sour bitterness providing some punch at the back. Fairly light bodied for such a big beer, with soft carbonation. Not bad, but a bit too sweet and sharp for mine.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ MItra Tiel. Hazy red brown with a tiny off-white head. Malty aroma with lots of caramel. Taste is less sweet than expected, nice bitterness and some peppery notes. Mouthfeel is round, full and surprisingly smooth for its 11% ABV. very nice extreme doppelbock

Bottled. Hazy reddish amber colour with a small beige head that leaves some lace. Aroma is sweet malts, mild alcohol, caramel, toffee and some mild dry fruits as well as ripe fruitiness to it. Also some nuttiness. Flavour is very similar, with also some mild grainy notes. Good sipper, and actually not too sweet, even though it’s got quite a high abv.
