Rich and tasty beer, almost like a imperial stout. Full bodied roasted malt and some herbs and spices. Very good.

On tap at the Bockbier Festival in Amsterdam. Pours a hazy deep amber with a brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a bit of smoke with notes of bread and backing dark grains. Flavor has a heavy smoke note with a bit of dark grain and dark fruits underlying.

Bottle from the Brewery. Poured a clear chesnut brown with a frothy off-white head. The aroma is burnt caramel. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a rich, slightly oily feel to the palate and a lingering alcoholic bitter sweet finish.

Bottle. Beautiful deep, dark red, with a frothy low head. Bit nose, lichens, raisins, alcohol burn, thinner. Burnt, bitter, very hot, raisins, grass, earth, moss. A bit weird, and way too hot. Very simple and sweet too, nothing like the delicious Herfst bock.

Bottle from Voldby. Cloudy reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, heavy caramel, dried fruit, yeasty and a little alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet finish with warming alcohol. Just a bit too boozy. 030913

Bottle at Borefts 2012 - Bodegraven. Pours clear brown with a fine, off-white cream head. Sugary malt nose, plenty of toffee, ham, plums and brown sugar. Big sweet flavor with moderate alcohol, big plums, dates, brown sugar. Full bodied, chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with big toasty sugars, lots of ripe fruits, rich bread. Pretty damn good doppelbock.
