33 cl. bottle sampled @ Borefts 2012. Dark amber with little mocha head. Smell is strongly sweet with mocha, concentrated lager yeast and lots of spices, caramel, toasted bread and some fruits. Taste is caramel, strong lager yeast, toasted bread, dark fruits, berries, rather strong booze, softer carb. - fuller than average doppelbock body. It is there but not entirely convincing.

Bottle from Zombier, Málaga, 11% ABV
Brown color with a generous, compact head. Aroma of caramel with a touch of roasted nuts. Full bodied, with a very good malt and caramel flavor, and a final of roated nuts; correct bitterness; moderate sugar content; at first it reminds me of the Doppel Sticke, although this one is less elegant and more boozy; but for sure a good Doppelbock, domain in which most breweries fail.

33cl bottle from DeMolen biershop. BB 03/2013.

Bottle: Poured a hazy brown color bock with a medium foamy head with light retention and no lacing. Aroma consists of caramelized sugar with notes of dry cereal. Taste is also a mix between some dry cereal notes and some light residual sugar notes. Body is a bit light for style with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Lacking body and sweetness with no interesting ester – not something I would seek again.

Bottled, at tasting at _angst_. Hazy mahogany colour, mid sized head. Caramelly nose with some salty licorice. Full bodied with soft mouthfeel. Caramelly and intensely warming, mid-bitter peppery finish.Judging from the name "Imperial Doppelbock" I feared this beer would a messy, boozy train wreck. That certainly wasn’t the case, this is nice.

330 ml bottle bought by my father during a business trip to Rotterdam. Shared at epic tasting on February 11. Pours dark reddish brown with a small creamy off-white head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, sweet fruits like plums, wood, tobacco and alcohol. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter and spicy with sweet dried fruits like raisins, prunes and figs, caramel, black pepper and alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied and quite boozy. Finish is sweet, slightly bitter, slightly tart and fruity.

33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. ABV 11%. Slightly hazy ruby brown colour, dense light beige head. Aroma of lovely dark fruits, port, caramel, light chocolate. Flavour is sweet, malty, dark fruits, port, chocolate, cocoa, light alcohol, light bitter finish. Fullbodied, soft mouthfeel, great beer, stupid name imo. You somehow expect an extreme beer, but this is very smooth and balanced.

17/10/2011 33cl bottle @ home - BB: 12/2012 (2011-558)

Clear deep ruby red to brown beer, creamy yellow head, pretty stable and adhesive. Aroma: grassy and herbal, some citrus, sweet ripe peaches, some oranges, bit dusty, some alcohol but just very faint. They really know how to hide those 11.5%! MF: very little to no carbon, full body, very oily thick texture, alcohol warming the throat. Taste: sweet fruits, sugary, liquor, ripe sweet mangos and peaches, sweet malts, milk chocolate, bit of mocha. Aftertaste: peaches, little bitter from the hops, passion fruits, some mocha, sweet alcohol and pretty sugary. Taste is very complex and interesting, but the alcohol makes this one pretty sweet and somewhat less drinkable. I'll have the Herfstbock instead, if you don't mind.
