Shelters, engines, noble truths, the elements, colour… whether a strong foundation, a sense of direction, a phase of the moon or by the seasons—by nature and by man, the cardinal number four proves its value. The workhorse behind many of these aspects of life, here we draw a parallel to symbolize a starting point. 33 Acres of Four, our Belgian Quad, has been diligently constructed to form a base. It lures you in by its sweetness and disguises its strength by way of carbonation. To drink patiently, and if repetitively, as its fortitude provides not so subtle grounds for what may come next.

Smells of paint thinner and lacquer thinner with some vague grains in the neighbourhood, has okay cloudy brown body and just a little bit of foam. Flavour is reasonably bright and fruit malt with soft sugar hints. Mouthfeel is full enough and alcohol is very well hidden. This is a decent quadrupel, far ahead of any other local attempts.

Amber, thin head. Very sweet, sticky, quite estery. That part is ok, but the malt sweetness is very simple, and there’s plasticy phenols. More restrained than I was expected based on their previous (poor) Belgian efforts, but still not great.

On tap at the brewery with Alex and Eugen. Pours a dark clear golden. Aroma is sweet, some spices, candies. Same taste. Very good stuff.

Draught at the brewery
Hazy amber color, small head. A lot of bubblegum, fruity esters, cloying sweetness, very boozy, and no Belgian character (it’s self defined as Belgian Quadruple), touch of anise in the end. Cloying to the point of being undrinkable.
Sad beer.

Draft - Anise and fruity dark esters. Cloudy dark gold. Sweet, anise, fruity and raisin with a long finish. Not good.

On tap at 33 Acres, pours a hazy amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma is actually quite restrained for a beer of this magnitude, showcasing restrained dark fruits, Belgian yeast and some brown sugar. Flavour is along the same lines, with notes of bubblegum, candied sugar, a touch of dark fruits, Belgian yeast and finishing with some fruity esters and alcohol. Not really an authentic quad, but it's some sort of miscellaneous Belgian strong which works pretty well. The 11.4% ABV is hidden very well. Very solid brew.

A little bigger and stronger than the triple but not hugely so. Quite similar really. Hazy maroon pour. Florals and light raisin. Touch of citrus in the end and some sour apricot. Sweet finish. Pretty well balanced. Tap at brewpub.
