Bottle. Pours with a very pretty, giant, rocky white head with exceptional lace over a hazy, somewhat deeper golden hued body. Aromas are of esters, mild pear, apple. Nice grainy, wheat, bready like malt structure. Medium strong varied citrus notes, tangerine, pomelo, light tamarind like notes as well. Phenol character is very light. Hardly any coriander. Light rose water. Flavors are malt forward. Quite bready, malty, toasty, and dry. Very clean, not supremely wit beer like (at least traditionally). Long malty duration, refined and slightly musty yeast character. Low citrus. Soft and pleasant to drink. Very little phenol. Lively carbonation, medium dry finish. Not really a wit (as listed), but still very tasty.

Tap at Freshcraft - turbid gold with a frothy, lasting head - nice is more like a mix of hefe and Belgian ale - quite a bit of banana and spicy phenols, sweetbread, musty/earthy yeast, moderate spices and melon rind - creamy texture and fairly yeasty in the mouth, again, a bit more hefe like - flavor is medium dry, with bready yeast, moderate peppery phenols, a touch of ginger, a bit of clove - finish is moderately spicy - quite a nice beer and certainly an interesting find at a Denver beer bar.

Tap @ Antwaerps Bierhuiske. Unclear dark yellow with a huge and lasting white head. Aroma is sweet, wheaty, citrus, banana and yeasty. Flavor is medium sweet. Sweet finish. Very refreshing on a hot summer day. 240712

Pours hazy gold into a tulip. Bright white head with medium retention recedes leaving scant lacing. Sweet yeast and wheat aromas. Sharp with sweet yeast, coriander and wheat. Medium length dry finish.

Tap @ ’t Antwaerps Bierhuiske. Very cloudy orange appearance wit ha big white head. Quite good lacing. Very spicy yeasty (along the line of a German Hefeweizen like Weihenstephaner), chewy wheat malty, clove aroma. Slightly tangy, quite dry and spicy yeasty, bready, light banana/clove flavor. Much like a German Hefeweizen- I couldn’t detect any added spices. Quite good. There was a minor metallic note but it was overall a fine experience. (4.3)
Update: Bottle @ home picked up in Fort Collins. Not nearly as exciting as last time, but still a tasty brew. (4.1)

75cl bottle. Hazy golden colour with a nice formation of a white head, nice lacework, perfect lasting. Aroma is yeasty, bready and slightly alcoholic. Flavour is sweet, very slightly wheat, yeast, citrus notes. The final is sweet and slightly alcoholic. Carbonation is flat. Body is medium to high.

Draught Very fine & dense off-white head, fully cloudy orange beer, mossy-ochre sheen; textbook lace. Spicy, including coriander and roasted & sweet malts, wheat. Sweet, rosewater, dull-sweet almondy or marzipan. Wheat imperceptible in the flavour. Very creamy MF, better bodied than most witbeers. St. Bernardus Wit is arguably - sorry, UNarguably one the best Be witbeers, Hoegaarden style. That they made such a bl***in sweet, dull, sake-like version saddens me.

Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. Pours opaque gold to orange with full creamy fluffy off white head with some sheet lacing. The aroma is full with rich bananas, cloves and a bit of bubble gum. The taste is nice with fresh grainy malts mixing with some hops that are floral to spicy and then rolling into clove spice and banana. Nice stuff that is easy drinking.

Hazy golden white colour, firm white head. Aroma of banana, coriander, wheat, herbal yeast, hops. Sweet, herbal, slightly bitter flavour, quite some coriander seeds. Finish is coriander and banana.
Interesting, somehow this beer seems to combine tripel and witbier. And it’s nice to see St. Bernardus is going to try to ’conquer’ Tokyo with a Belgian pub/restaurant. I wish them lots of luck!
