#MashTag was an epic experiment in crowdsourcing, which handed the keys to the brewery over to craft beer drinkers for a week. We asked you guys via Facebook and Twitter to direct all the elements of the brew and you decided to brew a 7.5% American Brown Ale with oak chips and hazelnuts.

330ml bottle from Beer Hawk - Really enjoyed this one, rich deep red body, solid lacing white head. Nose of nuts, a little coffee and cake fruit. Malty first taste that carries through to a nice well rounded mouthfeel, with a warming boozy ending. Like I say, I like this one. Nice.

Stor smaksrikdom og munnfylde, a beer to share and savour.

Bottled, batch 155 BB 03-07-14, large sample. Clear ruby color, medium brown head. Aroma of fruity and piney hops together with biscuity and chocolatey malts. Slight sweet, bit dry, quite bitter taste. Slight sharpish feel to it. These cascadian brown ales always tend to get a bit nutty, but otherwise I wouldn’t have noticed any hazelnuts. Nor oak chips btw, or it would be the dry mouthfeel that chips can give. Burns a bit in the finish. Aroma is quite nicely balanced, but in the flavor it’s a bit too harsh and dry.

08.10.2013, 0,33l bottle @ home:
Nice slightly brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet roasted, dark malts, caramel, coffee, chocolate, grass, malt candy, nuts. Taste is slightly sweet, dark malts, burnt caramel, sour coffee, harsh grass, unripe banana, roasted grain, weeds. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Fair enough.

dark brown, smooth large brown head. malty aroma, dark caramelly, faint dry hoppy. Flavor is malts, licorice, roasted malts, very faint woody or charcoaly like flavor - sort of like a schwarzbier. Read the label, ah, aged on oak chips and hazelnuts - that’s the woody note there.Interesting.. and quite tasty.

(bottle, 33cl) Stout-like appearance, dark brown colour with a beige and firm mid-sized foamy head. Dark malty aroma with notes of dark chocolate, toffee and a tinge of vanilla. Moderately sweet and roasty bitter flavour, almost full bodied with a soft carbonation. Dark and moderately roasted malty taste with hints of dark chocolate, liquorice and vanilla; sweet and roasty bitter finish with a delicately salty note. Likeable, but not overwhelming. 26.IX.13
