#MashTag was an epic experiment in crowdsourcing, which handed the keys to the brewery over to craft beer drinkers for a week. We asked you guys via Facebook and Twitter to direct all the elements of the brew and you decided to brew a 7.5% American Brown Ale with oak chips and hazelnuts.

Malts: Roasted Barley, Caramalt, Pale Malt, Amber Malt. Hi
Hops: Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, Pacific Gem.

Smell of chocolate. Black, brown head. Aroma of tar, ash, licorice. Sweet, slightly bitter. Flat carbon. Dry ashy texture. But.. where's the brown ale? Also no nuts.

Bouteille @ 4de Gentse Bierfestival.

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail

BBE 20.05.2014 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a foamy white head. Aroma of roasted malts, wood, coffee, hints of hops and nuts. Taste is sweetish, malty and roasty with notes of coffee, oak, wood and nuts. Finish is hoppy, malty and nutty with some wooden burnt coffee notes. Oaky notes get stronger as the beer warms up. Okay, but slightly unbalanced brown ale.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ GBF 2013. Blackish brown with a small mocha head. Nose is full of delicious sweet hazelnut with cocoa, chocolate milk, touch caramel. Taste is chocolate milk with sweet hazelnut everywhere, cocoa, chocolate cornflakes, sweet cheaper chocolate, hint oak. Very milk chocolate-like body. Stupid concept & gimmick, great beer. Thx! to the RB Crew for sharing.

Deep brown-chestnut beer, disappearing yellow-cream head. Chocolate, bit grassy nose. More chocolate, dry-sweet, chocolate wafers, bit piney in the finish. Quite thick MF, onctuous, dry finish. Interesting, certainly not world-shaking.

I picked this up at Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon 3rd August 2013 consumed in the field at Cropredy Fairport festival 8th August 2013 Pours hazy brown, nose is a little demerara and a touch nutty. Taste is a little nut brittle, touch sweet. At first I wasn’t so keen however I was taken in after a while and like Loz ended up enjoying it. A7 A3 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Draught at Fermentoren, Copenhagen, 7.2% ABV
Dark brown color, almost black, with creamy head. The aroma is very nice, mild, not just roasted malt, but also nuts, light coffee, cream, very light spices. Lean body; dark caramel and roasted malt flavor, with more than hints of liquorice; correct bitterness; it has a light chili pepper note.
Balanced beer.
