#MashTag was an epic experiment in crowdsourcing, which handed the keys to the brewery over to craft beer drinkers for a week. We asked you guys via Facebook and Twitter to direct all the elements of the brew and you decided to brew a 7.5% American Brown Ale with oak chips and hazelnuts.
Malts: Roasted Barley, Caramalt, Pale Malt, Amber Malt. Hi

Brewdog Shoreditch. Almost clear deep amber brown beer. Little pale cream coloured head. Palate is softish but the carbonation stings. Medium dark malt, thin. Trace of coffee. A surprising dash of coca cola with lesser generic fruits. Mild pine hops and a little bitter yeast. Smooth finish. Really feels quite Belgian!

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 114 - BBE 20-05-14, at William K Kurvi, 20130701) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had roasted malts, molasses and hops. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, molasses, hint of vanilla, caramell, nuts and bitterness. Aftertaste had roasted malts, sweetness and bitterness. A messy and too sweet brew.

Bottle at home in London - sourced from the Kris Wines. Pours clear, red-brown with a thick, frothy beige head. Nose holds some toasty bread, dusty cocoa, burnt leaves, earth. Medium sweet flavor, more dusty cocoa, dark sugars, mellow earthy bitterness, some dry burnt wood, brown bread, subtle dark berries. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly bitter, lots of toasty brown bread, some earth, lightly torched wood, chocolate. Pretty damn tasty. Well balanced.

Bottle 0.33l at William K. Kurvi, Helsinki. Batch 114. BBE 20-05-14. Colour is dark brown with small brownish white head. Aromas and flavours: Dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and hops. Good beer.

33cl bottle @ William K, kurvi. Batch #114, bb 20-05-14. Dark brown, latte head. Bready malty, coffee and hops in aroma. Flavor has hops, bread, coffee and dark chocolate. Finish is warming with fruity notes, chocolate aftertaste. Highly drinkable, smooth.

Clear dark brown beer, small light beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: toast, caramel, grains, mocha, smells a lot like a brown ale (which I later discovered it to be, so style-wise full points!). MF: quite some carbon, medium body. Taste: mocha, fudge, some coffee, chocolate, little bitter, toast, bit sourish. Aftertaste: little bitte, coffee, mocha, toast and, ok, maybe it's because I knew by then they were in there: hazelnuts. Not sure if I would have tasted them without knowing.

Appearance: Dark brown body with a faint beige head, no visible carbonation and no lacing.
Taste: Sugary, malty flavour. Wood and treacle in there too.
Palate: Thin to medium body with an oily texture. Soft carbonation.
Overall: Iām not a huge fan of this one. Very sweet and full of roasted flavours.

Bottle from Dunnottar Wines, Stonehaven. It pours deep mahogany brown with a thick beige head. The nose is wood, earth, chocolate, leather, nut, coffee, touch of soy sauce and toast. The taste is wood, earth, caramel, burnt toast, faint resin, touch of alcohol, nut, cocoa and coffee with a dry, lightly bitter finish. Decent malty brown ale. Not much else to say really!

Bottle split with JF at his gaff - the 60+ insect bites tasting, thanks to he, 09/06/13. Very dark mahogony brown with reddish hues in the light, medium tan head. Nose is dark malt, light roast, caramel, hazlenut. Taste comprises toffee fudge, nutty tones, brown sugars. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light roast in the finish. Ok drinkable brown affair but lacks depth for a 7.5% beer.

On tap at BrewDog Camden. Beer I dedicated to Simon Haddonsman Johnson on his funeral day as he loved Twitter so much and this is a fitting beer. Black beer thin beige head. Aroma of deep malts and some milk choc. Very malty good american brown tasty as hell and i love it and so would Simon. I miss you mate. Top bloke top beer.
