Monogamy is our ongoing, single hop series of pale ales -- a delicious and interesting (controlled) experiment designed to give us all a better understanding of what a hop can do when it flies solo. We keep our base recipe and brewing processes the same, but switch up the hop variable each time. A particularly troublesome beer for those who feel they....Must. Collect. Them. All.
Throughout the years we've brewed and rebrewed this recipe with over 20 different hops, and in 2017 we expanded the series to include double dry-hopped versions (for that nth degree of hope aromatics).
CENTENNIAL: This hop variety presents classic hop qualities of citrus and pine, tending toward the arboreal.

Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy golden color with small head. Very dry mouthfeel; it has resiny hops, but also a bit of vegetables.
It’s supposed to be fresh, it’s a good beer, but it’s not amazing.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is lightly piney and lightly fruity, and some floral notes that are quite prominent towards the end. Flavour is super floral, almost jasmine-y, with tons of floral hops that dominate. Finishes floral and nearly spicy. It's pretty simple, but I'm really digging the floral quality here. Very good.

Love the idea of thrMonogamy series, if not the taste of each brew, but that’s the point. Pours cloudy blonde with a minimum of white head that reduces to a ring and floaters. Really nice nose of string cereal and hay, with a mildly spicy and resin hops. Taste is all types of good. Rich malt base with a little caramel a awesome balance of resin and perfumes in the hops. Deeee-lish.

(On tap at the brewpub, Sept 29 2014) Pours a hazy pale gold with a moderate bubbly white head, lingers a bit with a little lace too. Aroma has moderate-strong hop aromas, fresh pine/leafy/floral character as expected, grapefruit zest, a little lemony and very bright. On the palate, lightly sweet pale/pils malts at first with grapefruit and lemon zest and a bit of citrus flesh, slightly orange-like. Lots of fresh pine and leafy character too, very lightly spicy, drying nicely from the middle on with lingering fruity “green” flavors and some cereal grains building up - my girlfriend says it reminded her of Trix. Moderately bitter pine/pith and grain aftertaste. Medium bodied with moderately high active carb. Not my all time favourite Monogamy but one of the better ones, nice showcase of a hop that balances pine and citrus. Refreshing, very drinkable.
