TSAR is rich and powerful, a full bodied Imperial Stout. Malty chocolate, mocha and dark berry fruit-notes preside over a subtle hop profile, whilst a smooth velvety texture in the mouth gives way to a lingering bitter, dark chocolate finish.

Bottle. Black oily pour, big brown foamy head. Aroma of chocolate, red fruit and sourish oak. Mouthfeel is smooth and velvet. Taste of coffee, pure cacao, red fruit, bit of milk and a bitter grassy finish. Tasteful, as always with buxton beers. Fruity and hoppy, like a black imperial ipa.

330ml bottle at the Local Pub, Athens. Black color with big beige brown frothy head. Aroma is roasted malty, coffee, light chocolate, very hoppy, pine, grassy, floral notes. Sweet and bitter like the aroma, lot of hoppy bitterness. Medium oily body with soft carbonation and bitter hoppy finish. It’s like a black IPA.

Great stuff. Thick dark pour with great head and carpet lacing. Lots of roast and chocolate and well-balanced overall. Bitter finish. Pungent roast - gets into your sinuses. Creamy texture. Wonderful. Tap at Churchkey.

12oz bottle I picked up a while back pours a translucent, nearly opaque black with brown edges and a ringing of beige head. Nose has a mix of roasted malt and molasses along with with lots of dark and dried fruit, prunes, raisins, mission figs, licorice too, a little bit of rubber, some booze too. Flavor has some candlewax, molasses, very heavy licorice, prunes, raisins, cherry cola, chocolate. Full bodied, sweet finish. A bit of roasty bitterness on the end.

330ml bottle at home. Pours jet black with a long-lasting tan head. Aromas of red fruit, dark chocolate, black coffee. Taste is roasted bitter, more red fruit, smoke coming through, charcoal maybe. Oily mouthfeel, medium body. Long, long finish. Mmmm.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with thick, average to huge, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, tan head. Surprising aroma has notes of woodruff, mint, aniseed, sweat and smelly feet, hardly detectable minimally roasty, dark malty background. Taste is dry, unpleasantly extremely bitter, roasty dark malty, soapy, herbal, a touch of lavender, woodruff, aniseed, peppermint and eucalyptus, metallic as well, very subtle dark malty hints of coffee. I’m baffled: oxidised hops? Kind of far out.
