Double Stout, part of Shepherd Neame’s Classic Collection range of beers, is based on a recipe discovered in a coded brewers’ log unearthed in the brewery archives.
Made with a blend of four different malts with a firm bitterness courtesy of local Kentish hops, it is a velvety smooth beer with dry, burnt flavours and cocoa and coffee notes.

Bottle from Asda. 4 for a fiver! Dark chestnut brown. Tan head. Dried vine fruit aroma. Roast malt. Taste is roast dryness. Some dark sugar. Dry, lightly tart aftertaste. Nice, other than being a little thin.

Dark brown color. Light brown head, brownies, molasses with a touch of charcoal in the nose. Moderate acidity, brownies, roasted malts, molasses, dark fruit, dry with sharp bitter finish. Very excellent take on the style.

Bottle 500ml.Clear medium black brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, dark chocolate. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130525]

Aroma is some cheap chocolate, cocoa, some sweetness, roast. Color is very dark brown almost black. It has nice tan head, which doesn’t stay for too long. Flavor is roast, malt, coffee, tobacco, some dryness. Finish is bitter and slightly acidic. Body is watrey.
