Double Stout, part of Shepherd Neame’s Classic Collection range of beers, is based on a recipe discovered in a coded brewers’ log unearthed in the brewery archives.
Made with a blend of four different malts with a firm bitterness courtesy of local Kentish hops, it is a velvety smooth beer with dry, burnt flavours and cocoa and coffee notes.

Old but gold! A lovely classic English stout, malty and drinkable with lots of chocolate and some coffee, good body, light to medium sweetness. Nice.

500ml bottle from Alko. Pours pitch black with a small head. Aroma of roasty malts, cocoa nibs, vanilla, coffee and chocolate. Taste is smooth, roasty and sweetish with hints of cocoa and coffee. Finish is sweetish, slightly roasty and earthy with hints of cocoa and coffee. Pretty balanced.

Tap at Pivo, Oulu. Colour is black with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Chocolate, some coffee and roasted malts. Actually this is quite soft. But I don’t get what "double" means in the name.

A black, a head is medium and beige. Aroma has roastiness of coffee, some liquirice, hint of metallic notes. Taste has strong roastiness, black coffee, some bitterness in the end. Almost medium bodied. Decent but I expected more. Roasted.

Bottle, 0.50l, shared with Tomaz. Pours pitch black with thick soapy light brown head and fair lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, nuts, bitter chocolate and herbs. Taste completely resembles the aroma, maybe there’s a hint of a licorice, but roasted malt and bitter chocolate prevails, while finish is moderate grassy bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Dry, drinkable and delicious...

from a 500ml bottle on 31/10/2015. Pours the darkestof browns with a small head. The aroma features, chocolate, caramel, roasted malt and some basement notes. In the mouth, there’s lots of bitter dark chocolate, licorice, burnt malt and a hint of caramel. The bitterness is really quite assertive and lingers. The texture is quite creamy and the carbonation is softish. A very solid and quite bold stout.
