Double Stout, part of Shepherd Neame’s Classic Collection range of beers, is based on a recipe discovered in a coded brewers’ log unearthed in the brewery archives.
Made with a blend of four different malts with a firm bitterness courtesy of local Kentish hops, it is a velvety smooth beer with dry, burnt flavours and cocoa and coffee notes.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aromas are roasted coffee, chocolate, woody notes, tar, liquorice. Taste is creamy, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, coffee. Full bodied, roasted finish. If only all Shepherd Neame beers were as good as this one.

Appearance is almost jet black with a one finger fizzy beige head. Aroma- coffee, cocoa, toffee hints, dark malts. Taste- lots of coffee and dark chocolate, roasty, fairly sweet- toffee and caramel, but then a bitter hoppy finish. Nice fluffy mouthfeel. Very good.

Schön dunkel im Glas, fluffiger Schaum, etwas untypisch für ein Stout. In der Nase Kaffee. Im Trunk sehr schwach, wenig Kaffee, trocken im Abgang. In meinem Verständnis kein Double Stout. Zu wenig Aroma, zu wenig Geschmack.

Flasche (50 cl) von Bierlieb, Berlin. - Pechschwarz, sortentypisch bescheidene Schaumbildung. - In der Nase bitterer Kakao, vage dunkle Frucht, etwas säuerlich. - Antrunk sehr schlank, fast dünn aber kräftig röstig-bitter mit Bitterkakao, Mokka, etwas Vanille. Kaum süß; feine fruchtige Säure. Sehr dünner Körper. Abgang trocken mit viel Röstmalzbittere, einem Hauch von Holzkohle und leicht erdig-holzigem englischen Hopfen, aber nicht allzu viel davon. - Sehr schlankes, röstmalzbetontes Stout. Süffig und voller Aromen, trotz seiner Dünne.

bottle from superbrugsen enghavevej. pitch dark, smooth brown head. malty aroma, some roasted malts, also an almost sourish note, that probably is from just a lot of malts. very english, but also kind of nice aroma. flavor is chocolate, roasted malts, almost sour notes, not much hops, but a very dry stout. quite nice. Better than guinness.

Palate: Medium + body. Tad sweet and an ok bitterness. Average to soft carbonation. Dry ending.

50cl bottle in Tallinn. Pours clear mahogany with a lightly tanned head. Aroma of roasted malt with cocoa, coffee and hints of burnt wood. Moderate to medium sweet with balanced and lovely roasty flavours and a light bitterness in the finish. Botella de 50 cl en el cabanon de Avilés en el momento el 29-06-2014. Color negro brillante con espuma beige oscura persistente. Sabores y aromas ligeros de maltas tostadas con toques de café y sobretodo de chocolate y cacao (sobretodo al coger temperatura ), con algunas especias suaves, vainilla, combinados con un amargo final, bastante ligero, pero bueno. Para repetir sin problemas, bastante ligera y fácil de beber con sus 5.2 vol, lo mejor esta de la mitad al final. No esta mal.

Bottle. Pours opaque brownish black with small white to light brown head. Aroma is sweet malt, roasted malt, caramel, sweet licorice, grain, straw and gravy. Taste is light to medium sweet, light bitter and faint sour. Body is smooth and creamy with soft carbonation. Finish is long and light sweet with notes of roasted malt, coffee, licorice, gravy, syrup, brown sugar, licorice mints and red berries cordial.
