Leather mostly and a little tobacco. Not much sweetness. Comes off dry at first, and then some tanginess. Ok. Bottle. UT.

On the palate, it’s not got much dubbel character. Thin old school diner coffee, nuts, cardboard cutouts of fruit…just a weird, muted dark ale of no particular influence, heritage, or quality. They’ve been making this long enough that this is what they want.

Nice deep brown body, okay foam. Soft biscuit and deep barley on the nose. Flavour is more deep biscuit, soft dry chocolate. Okay carbonation but otherwise thin. Acceptable, drinkable.

Draft - Cocoa and raisin. Dark brown with a decent beige head. Sweet plum, raisin, cocoa and a nice finish. Pretty decent.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark brown color, compact head. Mild aroma, unassertive flavor; dusty old chocolate, moderate sweetness, low bitterness, very light liquorice.
That’s it. Unimpressive at best.

On tap at St Augustine's, pours a dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts, bready notes and light toasted caramel. Flavour is too sweet for the style, with toaster caramel, bready notes and residual sweetness. Not complex at all and way too sweet. Not too impressive.
