Gildenbier (Guild Beer) is brewed according to the centuries-old tradition of the archers’ guild of the town of Diest. Gildenbier is a dark, special beer that is surprisingly tasty with chocolate desserts.

Also known as: "Galgenbier" when served on tap at Het Galgen Huisje in Ghent. Dark brown beer with tight, thin head. Texture is smooth and rich. Flavour is mainly sweet with some ripe plummy fruits coming through

Bottle, 7%. Clear, sparkling dark brown colour. Small, stable light brown head. The flavour is quite malty with some dark malt notes and a little asparagus. Turns into a little vinous pepperiness along the way. Well-balanced and quite decent.

Bottle at Paters Vaetje, Antwerp. Chestnut colour with beige head. Spicey aroma, with caramel. slightly sweet in mouth with more caramel. Nice hoop drying finish. Spice is quite perfumed. Served in dimpled half pint jug. Perfumed spice runs into finish. Fine, but weird. Not sure the spice/sweet mix works here.

Bottled 25cl (BB 12/2005)
Dark ruby, good tanned head. Metallic, fruity malty nose (slightly roasted) with some caramel. Appearance and aroma are very dunkel-like. Sweet, sticky toffeeish but medium-bodied. Malty and alcoholic backbone. Quite carbonated. Sweet aftertaste. Good dessert beer.

(Bottle 25 cl) Brewed with three different malts and added sugar this is a very dark but also very sweet beer - slightly brownish head. Lots of toffee- and caramel flavours. Almost a dessert beer - for chocolate mousse perhaps? Nice in smal quantities.... 030296
